This is very insightful. As a symphonic metal guitarist myself who hasn’t played many live gigs I’ve always wondered about the technical details of live sound and monitoring. Pretty much every symphonic metal drummer plays to a click and uses backing tracks (even if they have a live keyboard player). But I didn’t know if the guitarists would hear the click as well. I feel like I would want to hear the kick drum for getting super tight rhythms(Iced Earth is a big influence) but definitely the orchestrations as well, to feel the epic sound as much as possible.
