I utterly forgot about this song for many years. I loved this song when I was living in a dorm in college!!

When I saw this song was being reacted to I clicked on it right away. I am not a big Elvis Costello fan, I like a few of his songs. I first heard this song many years ago. I was on leave from the Air Force and staying at my little brother's house, I was home alone and bored so I started looking through his CD collection and saw Elvis Costello's greatest hits. Played it and when this song came on I liked it instantly, the music is what got my attention and then the lyrics. The last time I listened to it, probably a few months ago, I wondered what MRM would think of it. I thought the lyrics were relevant for the times every time I listened to it, including the first time. I apologize for this being so long of a comment but that's the story of when I first heard the song and why I like it.

Declan Patrick MacManus OBE, better know as Elvis Costello. He's released albums since 1977 and was knighted last year. He even won another Grammy THIS year (Jan 2020). He has been and remains one of the best songwriters ever - among the pantheon with people like Dylan, Morrison, Wonder, Lennon/McCartney. I like his stuff from the late 70s when he was one of the faces of British new wave. He has three albums in Rolling Stone's top 500. Others will give you lots of other songs to view. "Alison" about an ex-girlfriend and the 'title' song from his first album "My Aim is True" remains my favorite. I give you two entries for the bingo ball: Bob Dylan, Tangled Up in Blue and Van Morrison, Into the Mystic.

This song was written by Nick Lowe, who also produced it. Originally, it was intended to be tongue-in-cheek. This video cracks me up with Steve Nieve pretending to play Costello's guitar just to give him something to do. The final shot with them falling on the floor was when they were made to get up for the shoot.

My favorite version of this song is the live version that Elvis sings with Nick and the first thing Elvis says is “This is a song that Nick wrote and I stole.” Apparently they were great friends.

I saw Elvis Costello my freshman year at the University of North Carolina, late 1979 or early 1980 during the hostage crisis. When he sang this he said it was "for the hostages". A powerful moment.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I can now view this song thru my aspie lens. The upbeat nature of the music and the literal meaning behind the song itself gives a perfect observation of the main/lead singer’s delivery of the idea. Great choice, always a classic 👏🏼 💚✌🏼

I was just thinking about how I relate to the words. I'm an aspie too and I think how ignorant the professionals that want to call our reactions wrong. I teach Peace, show love not talk it, and want too understand all marginalized people. Being an aspies has caused me to becoming a social justice warrior. I love unconditionally and will remain loyal to those I love. So what if it's different from NT's.

Elvis has had a long and impressive career, and I like some of his newer stuff, but i don't know of anyone other than the Beatles who had such an impressive flurry of work over a relatively short time. Up to King of America in 1986, he did an album a year. OMG. I also think he's the best lyricist in pop music over the last 50 years. It's ironic that you picked a cover lol, but it's still a great song. If you wanna do another Elvis song, I'd suggest Green Short or American without Tears

In 1962 I was twelve years old .i was watching tv in the daytime when a special bulletin came on the news that civil rights demonstrators being led by Martin Luther King were being subjected to police dogs coming at them, along with being knocked off their feet and then beaten by police. That was in Selma Alabama. It was,for me the first time I saw racism up close.I am white. That bulletin shocked me because such things could not happen here.,i thought. It also woke me up to this terrible fact of life, especially then when emotions were raw and unrestrained.I thought we left that venom behind us,only to see it get elected president..This shocked and disturbed me .The old ways are not back though.Joe Biden and the dems will make sure that doesn't happen, by working with all people of good will.
