Elvis "monologue"; August 22, 1969 - Las Vegas, Nevada

A staple during this particular Vegas stand but in general, a rare occurance - Elvis sharing his "life story" during the dinner show on August 22nd, 1969.
No major revelations as such but Elvis rarely talked about his life in public, much less during his shows but when he returned to live performances in August 1969 he added a "monologue" to the set list - going through his side of the story he told it on every show during the run in his own, charming way.

This is just the best. I've heard excerpts of this before. His sense of humor was just priceless and his intelligence was off the charts. Just a sweet, wonderful human that tried his best to be successful, help people, and do what he loved. Been a fan since 1977 and it just never gets old. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Elvis has such a great sense of humor. He sounds as good talking as he does singing . I still love him. I like the Mother story too. Would have liked to of saw the footage. It was distasteful for them to have Elvis singing to a hound dog but he did it with style so the joke was on them. Elvis was a great sport and the best entertainer ever. There will never be anyone like him. I wish we wouldn t have lost him at the early age of 42 because I know that we would have seen much more greatness from Elvis because he was truly a talented beautiful man who was one of a kind. R.i.p. Elvis. You will never be forgotten !

Brenda Booher Indeed. Elvis had a great speaking voice as well that he never fully developed as well as he could have. Pleasant, husky and very southern. If he had slowed down his cadence and eliminated his stutter, although charming and very much a part of him, the man could've been a radio host as well if he wanted to be. He could certainly have been a hell of an actor of given the chance, but the "colonel" didn't let that happen.

I just love hearing him speak. He was so ahead of his time, and so funny, with such a great sense of humour! And clearly the way he recalls 'bigging it up' after becoming a movie star, he's just parodying himself because he obviously stayed humble his whole life. Aaw to have been in his era and to have met/seen him, would have been wonderful!

Oh Elvis, how we all miss you. I've read some of the comments below, mine is another. I'm 70 & saw him live twice. I believe Elvis had ADHD, they knew nothing about that back then & through time he was self-medicating. I've enjoyed many entertainers over the years, but no-one had the whole package as this man did. There are times when a certain song is played, I still tear up, & I'm a man. If he sounded that good here on earth, I can only imagine how he must sound in Heaven. God Bless You Elvis.

Sixty years ago this happen. Seems like not that long ago, and I was not born yet. My parents been married for a year, my Daddy was in the Navy on a ship, and my Mom was living with her dog in her home town. She wrote love letters to my Dad. That's how my parents dated for six months. I guess it's no different then online dating. My sister was born in 1975 and I was born seven years later. We grew up hearing about Elvis from my Mom. Sadly, she never got to go see him. People bought the tickets up fast on his last show.

Elvis had issues emotionally it’s true, but I love the honesty that was there in him and also he was humble. Parker only saw him as a commodity to sell, but Elvis allowed it because he loved being the image. What a talented man he was with that voice he could of accomplished so much more and done so much more if it hadn’t been for that inflated ego and he could of had a manger who saw the talent and his love of music.

I have heard this talk over the last half century. Elvis messed up his own chronology rather badly. And he was in great error when he said "The guy [Sam Phillips] put the record out a year and a half later." He didn't really just want to make a record for his own use. He wanted to be professional singer. "My Happiness" was not the song that became a big hit, but "That's All Right." The latter was released weeks after the recording.
