I was 15 when I attended this show with my mom,dad and sister. It’s nice to see up close cause we were in the balcony at the opposite end of the stage. It was my first Elvis concert. If only could roll back the hands of time.

This video is surprisingly stable for fan footage. It’s fun to hear the audience clapping along, and I like how Elvis faces all directions so everyone could see him. Elvis was his own era-when he left, it ended. So glad we have the videos and recordings!

I've never seen Elvis wearing a shirt like this before in the 70s highly unusual normally he was in jumpsuits nice change ,,
@PauloPereira-jj4jv2 жыл бұрын
Not unusual at all. He did in 1971 and 1972 many times. Even in 1975. And he wore a suit, wich he took off just to sing some songs with freedom of movements.

It turns out this was the Evening Show, and he wore the Powder Blue On Tour Suit at the afternoon show. My friend attended all 7 of Elvis's Chicago shows in the 70s. He told me this, and at first I didn't believe him, but I found an article in an Elvis fan magazine from 1972 that talks about this, and a fan commented on Facebook that he only attended the afternoon show that day and that Elvis was wearing the Blue jumpsuit at that show.

This "suit" Elvis wore during this afternoon concert was the first time he wore it onstage. The pants come with a white coat as well and the shirt is a paisley pattern. It was very uncommon for Elvis to wear this. It really wasn't considered a stage outfit. It was worn on stage another time or two in '72, including two nights later at a concert appearance in Wichita.

@@PauloPereira-jj4jv that is true. It was not that uncommon in ‘71 & ‘72. He also wore some not so flattering two piece suits in ‘75 as well.

@@BradfoRobe The audience recording of this show, the bootleg titled "Who Shot Me", ends during the Closing Vamp and we don't get to hear Al Dvorin saying "Elvis has left the building". I have heard the same concert from a different source. It has Al Dvorin saying "Elvis has left the building. Thank you and Good Night!". When it was an afternoon show, Al would say "Elvis has left the building. Thank you and Good Afternoon!"...as he did for the Afternoon In the Garden RCA CD the weekend before on Saturday, June 10, 1972. Oh...and there's more proof. Two different fan magazines from 1972...Tim Hiland wrote the article saying it was the evening show with elvis in the white suit with the paisley shirt. A woman named Joyce Burcham was at the afternoon show with Elvis in the Blue On Tour Suit. Here's her article word for word! June 17, 1972 (Afternoon Show) Chicago, Illinois Review by Joyce Burcham - Elvis News Service Weekly, Issue 68 (July 18, 1972) I had the opportunity to go and see the one and only Elvis appearing in Chicago, Illinois, my home town, on Saturday, June 17th. The show started with comedian Jackie Kahane who was really good. Then, the Sweet Inspirations came on and did quite a few songs that were really good. Next was Elvis after the intermission which seemed to have been forever. I was so nervous holding on to my girlfriend’s arm while the “2001” song started playing. What a feeling you get from this song. Here came Elvis on stage, light blue jumpsuit with all silver sequins on it. He wore his guitar and blue cape to match with a white lining. He also wore a white scarf and boots. Elvis looked just beautiful. The people and flash bulbs were going crazy. Elvis started right into singing “That’s All Right”, “Proud Mary”, “Never Been To Spain” (he really did a great job on this song), “Until It’s Time for you to Go” (right then a girl threw Elvis a red rose), “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me”, “Polk Salad Annie”, “Love Me”, “All Shook Up”, “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Teddy Bear/Don’t Be Cruel” (after this song Elvis finally said a few words about being back in Chicago after such a long time). By this time people were throwing bras, shoes and handkerchiefs to Elvis. He really enjoyed it, too. Then Elvis started in again singing - “Love Me Tender”, “Little Sister/Get Back”, “I’ll Remember You” (I never heard Elvis sing this live before, it was a beautiful song, he also said it was one of his favorite records), “Hound Dog” (Elvis started singing this in a bluesy way and the girls went wild, and he kept teasing them. Then he speeded it up into his old style). Then came “Suspicious Minds” (his first scarf came off and he threw it to the people, and he did some great karate chops. After this he introduced all the members of the band, and others - then started singing another of my favorites “For the Good Times” (really great). “A Big Hunk O’ Love” was next and he had another scarf on the threw that one too. “An American Trilogy” (a magnificent song sung by Elvis. He puts all he has into it and his voice is something else). The people were really overwhelmed by this number with their clapping but to me it was kind of a disappointment that he didn’t receive a standing ovation for such a master piece. Next, “Funny How Times Slips Away”. Another scarf went on and so did his cape which he sang “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. The was the last song and Elvis gave us a perfect show to sell out seats, his singing is now perfect and his movements are quite few. The was no kissing and not much talking but still Elvis is and always will be the king.
