The song itself was recorded by Elvis in United Recorders, Hollywood on 23 October 1968, during the movies soundtrack session, and in common with "Live A Little, Love a Little" was produced by Billy Strange on behalf of MGM. The sixth and final take was chosen as the master take, and whilst vocal and brass overdubs were added for the record release, it was the undubbed master which was used within the movie. The undubbed master seems to fit the song better, as the brass and vocal overdubs, the "Hallelujah's" in particular, seem to smother the song and make the arrangement seem too busy. With it's clever lyrics, which remain just as relevant today, and with Elvis' "Memphis 69" voice, the song is one of his best recordings of the period, and indeed of his career in general.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
