One of his most emotive vocals & I adore this song! Elvis sounds so intimate here, it's definitely a superior version with the overdubs removed. Kris Kristofferson said that he got the inspiration for the song from an Esquire magazine interview with Frank Sinatra. When asked what he believed in, Frank replied "Booze, broads, or the bible.... whatever helps me make it through the night". Super reaction Seph! Loved it! 💯 ❤

What you are listening to is the undubbed masters. They were released with the overdubs of the orchestra, Imperials and Sweets. These undubbed masters showcase his voice as in the original release sometimes his voice would get lost in the mix.

S RANK FOR SURE! Okay, okay: Enough with the exploding 💞💖💞 Time to dive right into... * drum roll please * The Recording Session Info! Yay! (I'm wondering if reading these are really interesting or a bore to read; As an Elvis fan I find them interesting haha) "Help Me Make Through The Night" written by Kris Kistofferson Recorded at Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee on May 17/18 1971 Hours: May 17th: 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m./ May 17th & 18th: 9:00 p.m.- 12:00 a.m./ May 18th: 1:00 a.m.- 4:00 a.m. Producer: Felton Jarvis Engineer: Al Pachucki Musicians: Guitar: James Burton Guitar: Chip Young Guitar: Charlie Hodge Guitar: Joe Esposito Drums: Kenneth Buttrey Piano: David Briggs Bass: Norbert Putnam Percussion: Jerry Carrigan Organ: Charlie McCoy Note by me: Since there were no back up vocals on this track that you reacted to Seph I shall "cheat" a little here & skip providing backing vocals info here. Take 1: False Start + False Start 1:14 (preceded by rehearsal) Take 2: False Start 0:15 Take 3: Complete 3:13 Take 4: - (Unavailable) Take 5: False Start 0:04 Take 7: Complete 3:02 Take 8: False Start 0:19 Take 9: False Start 0:17 Take 10: False Start + Complete 3:43 Take 11: Complete (used for Spliced Master) Take 12 & Take 13: Unavailable Take 14: False Start 1:45 Take 15: Complete 3:11 Take 16: (used for Spliced Master) Spliced (Master) 2:44 (Spliced from Take 11 & ending from Take 16 Undubbed Master) Overdub Master 2:45 String Overdubs on June 22, 1971. Okay so: This is the Undubbed Master you reacted to Seph. No strings, no backing vocals. And while I TOTALLY respect The Imperials and Mary and Ginger Holladay and have the UTMOST respect for Miss Millie Kirkham, I have to admit I prefer the version without the strings and backing vocals. If I said it once I've said it a million times I don't like orchestral elements in country music. I don't think it fits. The Undubbed Master is superior in my opinion. I shall try to provide songwriter in a separate comment 😀👍 THANKS FOR SHARING SEPH! YOU'RE THE MOSTEST 💎👌 TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace ✌& blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕

Another one of my absolute favorites from his lesser known works. So beautiful, sad, and wonderfully sung. It's also one of his more true to life songs, as Elvis was known to hate spending the night alone, going as far as waking up his sleeping friends so they would stay up with him.

2nd comment: Songwriter Info (Bio short only because there is no way I can fit it all here): Kristoffer Kristofferson (born June 22, 1936) is an American retired country singer, songwriter, and actor. Among his songwriting credits are "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night", all of which were hits for other artists. In 1985, Kristofferson joined fellow country artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash in the country music supergroup The Highwaymen, which was a key creative force in the outlaw country music movement that eschewed the traditional Nashville country music machine in favor of independent songwriting and producing. As an actor, Kristofferson is known for his roles in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973), Blume in Love (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), A Star Is Born (1976) (which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor), Convoy (1978), Heaven's Gate (1980), Stagecoach (1986), Lone Star (1996), and the Blade film trilogy (1998-2004). In 2004, Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Link here for anyone interested in reading (really interesting in my opinion by the way): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kris_Kristofferson 🚨SEPH: "A STAR IS BORN" SPOILER ALERT"🚨 Elvis was offered the male lead by Barbara Streisand. Elvis fans will tell you this once they read the above. Everyone has their own theory on why it never came to pass. Since this all happened in 1974 this is ahead of where you are now so I shall refrain myself from talking about it here. I just thought to give you a heads up. *Fingers crossed this goes through*

Oh, man, Seph. This transformation you do with your hair at the very beginning. You're just showing off now. God, I love all of your vocalizations. There really is nothing better than seeing Elvis' seductive effects on you. And Elvis' emotive vocal growls are in supreme form on this one. "I don't wanna be alone. Help me make it through the night."

@@SephPlays You mean you don't just wanna know what I thought of your tostled hair?! 😉 I just listened to the original version of this song next to this alternate, stripped-down mix. This alternate version is far superior. It really showcases the nuances you pointed out in Elvis' vocals. And it also brings out the richly performed instrumentation - the guitar, bass, and piano. However, song-wise, for me "Help Me Make It Through The Night," doesn't match the emotional charge of songs like "I'm Leavin'."
