Elvis was a huge fan of black artists of the time and credited them for his style of dress and singing.

He's sold anywhere from 1 to 1/2 billion records worldwide and never played outside of the U.S. except for Canada. That's without MTV, internet, smartphones 500 channel satellite TV etc. Biggest Star by far in this counties history and 1 of the biggest worldwide. Without Elvis there's no Beatles.

That was fire guys - your reaction was awesome. You both got carried away like the crowd did !! Loved it - priceless. His ex wife and his daughter have seen it and have stated that it is a brilliant film that accurate portrays EP and bought them both to tears. The actor Austin butler apparently does a phenomenal job playing him, and that’s no mean feat for such an icon. Tom Hanks also does a great job they said and a lot of the story revolves around his relationship as te manager. You guys rock as always - 50k won’t be far away for such a good channel 💯 oh and this was on the hayride in Louisiana so you picked the south bang on. 1954-55 so very early in his career.

In this film clip, Elvis Presley and his band are debuting on the "Louisiana Hayride" Country music radio show, that aired on KWKH, Shreveport, Louisiana. The radio show was a direct competitor to "The Grand Ole' Opry" radio show on WSM Nashville, Tennessee. Elvis Presley and his band were performing in the Deep South, and most of the people were "Bible-Belters", and were political and religious Conservatives, even by 1950s standards. They had never heard a Blues song, or seen a Blues singer. Blending elements of Blues and Gospel into his Country music act, along with Presley's then-provocative stage performance ("working the crowd") was revolutionary and controversial for its time. Virtually all of the women had never seen a handsome man like Elvis Presley turn them on like that, inspiring sexual feelings that they had been taught to suppress by Southern society and Southern Christian churches (specifically Southern Baptists of that era) for generations. It was an enormous release of "sexual tension" for these women, and later, for the teen girls that would become his fans a year or two later.

I’d argue that the closest competitors to the King have to be the Beatles. They were on that level for sure! You could at least *hear* Elvis sing at his shows, while virtually no one could hear the Beatles with his psycho their audience got. Not even the guys themselves sometimes.

Obviously this was early in his career…here he’s performing on the Louisiana Hayride radio show, either late 1954 or early 1955 shortly after being rejected by the Grand Ole Opry back in Nashville…the country music traditionalist didn’t care for Elvis’s high-energy brand of Rockabilly, nor did many of the adults..they didn’t want their children, especially the girls to be influenced by this new brand of race music…that’s why the Establishment which was mostly white tried to stop it from crossing over into the mainstream music which at the time was mostly conservative squeaky clean vanilla. I’ll try my best to give you a timeline…July 1954, 19 year old Elvis has his first big commercial hit for Sun Studio’s with ‘That’s Alright Mama’ a song written and sung by black blues artist Arthur Crudup back in 1946…and so by 1955 Col. Parker step in and proceeded to exploit Elvis’s career to the hilt.

The time period is very important to consider why Elvis' dancing had such a huge impact on audiences back in his day. This time period was an entirely different era. Dancing was to be more "clean" and chaste compared to his wiggling and energetic dancing. His moves were considered outright vulgar by many. The parents of Elvis' teenage fans wanted him arrested for being "inappropriate" and wanted him "canceled" as we would say today. This is why he was so huge; he was something totally different compared to other "clean" singers.

I am in Homestead which is just south of Miami. It used to be a little agricultural town and now it’s becoming a booming suburb and we have this beautiful new movieplex call ShowBiz down here where we have bowling and that’s where I saw it and they have these luxurious seats and you can’t even sit up straight you have to lay back almost like you’re in a recliner. The seats are electric they’re super cushy and nobody gets in your way no head is in your way ever. So that’s where I saw it. My sister and my best friend up in Detroit site in probably Southfield or Troy I’ll try to Detroit maybe in Detroit I don’t know . And my best friend took her darling husband from Cuba and their daughter who’s only 19 to see it and she said woo hoo

This scene represents Elvis‘s very first performance being himself and acting the way he wanted to end dancing like African-American people the way you wanted to he learned from BB King and Mahalia Jackson and little Richard because they were in the Memphis bars then Elvis visited and learned from them there. He was super super super sexy and no one had ever seen a white man dance like that ever ever in history before Elvis did it they saw Fred Astaire dancing they saw Jean Kelly dancing but they never saw a man being sexy who was white never and he did and he made them go crazy so this is supposedly his first performance on a stage he had fam that that with little recording studio and the lady at the end who screams really loudly is one of the people who told her husband that she believed in him. But he had never performed anywhere he is right here performing for a hayride radio show and he was 19 years old and he drove women crazy and that’s when that was that was before anything else happened that was his very first performance you guys are adorable.
