A couple of years ago my sisters and I had planned to be there for his 90th birthday because we wanted to hopefully meet Lisa. Unfortunately, that won't happen now that she's gone. I remember bawling when I heard she died. I know she wanted to be at the Golden Globes to support Austin, but she should've gone to the hospital instead. She would most likely still be alive. 😭

Still to this day my favorite singer!! Ever since I was a kid, Elvis has always had a special place in my heart! My grandma was a die hard fan of his and she easily made me one too. I remember one time she babysat me and I went into her office and saw a photo of him on her wall. All I remember seeing was this gorgeous man in what looked like his early to mid 20s wearing a suit, he had jet black hair, and an acoustic guitar strapped around him. That photo was the first time I questioned if I was gay 😂 I asked her who he was and she immediately played me my first Elvis song, which was “Heartbreak Hotel”, and I immediately was entranced by his voice! She led me down a rabbit hole and I’m so happy she did. We always had a great relationship but it was Elvis that made it stronger. Unfortunately she passed away almost 20 years ago and I can’t help but think about her every time I listen to his music, which is all the time! So very much to be thankful for regarding Elvis... I was a very young girl when I first saw him on the Dorseys television show.....that year for Christmas I asked Santa to bring me a guitar, which he did.... thus began my love for strumming and singing. What joyful memories I accumulated through the years. This is only one of many reasons to be thankful Elvis and I were living in the same period of time. One regret is that I never saw him perform in Person. A lifetime of researching Elvis has led me to become a go-to person answering Elvis trivia. It has been a joy 'knowing' Elvis. One other regret is telling my mother...I, being a very young girl...that I was going to marry him....needless to say some dreams just don't come true! One of my favorite things to learn about Elvis is the underlying goober personality. Thought karate looked cool so went and learned karate. Wanted to play go karts so he went and bought a whole fleet for him and the boys. There was that time he heard about a sandwich served at this one little shop so he flew to out Denver at midnight to go try it. He was so unapologetically himself

My Mother was an OG Elvis fan. Having been from the same state as he was (Mississippi) and she was a junior in high school when he came onto the scene in 1957. I grew up with Elvis everything. When he died I watched my Mother become human and young before my toddler eyes. I took care of her that day because her King was dead and her heart was broken. One of my favorite Elvis car stories is that back in the day “before SUV’s were a thing” Elvis wanted a car that could carry all of his music stuff, but didn’t want a van, and he wanted it to be a Cadillac. I’m a drummer, but he’s always been a huge influence on me and I still love and respect him!!!! As a kid, my favorite song of his was Burning Love. It’s funny you bring up Disney because in 2021, the Walt Disney Archives brought a traveling exhibition to Graceland chock full of Disney memorabilia including, but not limited to: a Xenomorph ALIEN from “The Great Movie Ride”, the full costume of THE ROCKETEER and his jetpack, Jeff Bridges’ Clu costume from TRON: LEGACY, a screen-used Herbie the Love Bug, Wilson the volleyball from CAST AWAY and Wayne Szalinski’s shrink ray from HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS. I was a kid in a candy store! I could’ve stayed for hours!

An 8 track was just like the audio carts that radio stations used to use for commercials. They were designed as an endless loop, so they never needed to be rewound. The 8 track was 4 stero tracks on the tape and the head in the player would physically move between the tracks with a very noticeable clunk sound. The switch between tracks would usually happen in the middle of a song so you would have a hiccup in whatever song you were listening to.
