Ashleigh, now take hubben to the ‘overlook’ at the base of Mt Hood in the big lodge. To this day when I’m up there night skiing government camp by the lodge i always think of this movie. Some people say the Mt Hood lodge is haunted. I don’t think so. It’s so beautiful up there year ‘round. When it’s covered in new snow it’s magical. When it’s summer it’s spectacular. The mountain itself may be haunted, as at least one person dies on it every year. Usually avalanche.

Hi Ashley, I've had the pleasure of staying at the Stanley 6 times over the last 30 years, most recently about 6 monthes ago. I'm excited to see your upcoming ghost hunting video. I've had had several experiences at the Stanley myself so I'm curious to see what you may have encounterd. How fun was that? Loved it! Eloise Asylum in Michigan is super haunted, and the owner is a really cool guy. There was also a horror movie called "Eloise" released in 2016 (complete work of fiction, but fun). Research it, maybe you can plan another trip. I went through both of the haunted houses held inside last year. But the real terrors are on the top floors where they housed the criminally insane. That's where the paranormal researchers do their work.

I loved reading the book. The movie took some liberties with the adaptation. I won't say too much, but if you've only seen the movie, you can still enjoy the book and its differences. It is often rated as one of his top five scariest books. Great job, Ashleigh. You gave this long time Stephen King fan some great visuals and information.

The Shining 1980, interiors was all shot in a studio modeled after a hotel which is in Yosemite and partly Stanley hotel. Exterior was filmed at Timberline Lodge but the hotel is nowhere near as big as the overlook hotel was supposed to be and the interiors at TImberline Lodge couldn't be more different.

Aha moment! I was wondering why THIS hotel was such a big deal (beautiful as it is), and not the Timberline Lodge in Oregon, whose exterior is immediately recognizable from the movie. But, I never saw the series or any remake, only the Kubrick film (and Dr. Sleep). But now I know that King was inspired here to write the novel, as it was already known as a haunted hotel.
