Recorded by Elvis for inclusion in his 1963 movie "Fun In Acapulco" over two days. The RCA master, or record version was first to be achieved on 22 January 1963, and after nine takes it was decided that a spliced master should be created using parts of takes nine and seven. However, it was decided that they should attempt to record another version for the movie the following day. Unusually, instead of allocating a separate matrix number, as was normal practice, they decided to carry on the take numbers and so take seventeen, the final take was chosen for the movie.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!

Love these recordings - he was so funny at times when trying to record songs - it's a wonder he ever managed to get the songs laid down on tape - must have been amazing working with him 💕💕

It is reported that Elvis would sometimes get physically sick from making some of his movies. Understandable, if this song is anything to go by. The main issue is that Elvis had now totally strayed away from what made him a global phenomenon. Fun in Acapulco was a million miles away from Mystery Train or Hard Headed Woman or Big Hunk O'Love, and an entire catalogue of weighty, and truly amazing recordings. Personally, I can't remember a time I played a movie album or watched his movies because of the songs. The fact that Elvis sang them beautifully didn't alter my dislike of many of the songs. But, I enjoyed this upload because I love listening to Elvis making fun of these songs, and making them sound a lot better than what they actually are!! 1:48 Olé indeed 😅

It's really fascinating how he could make a (poor and on the brink of offensive cliché) song interesting, even though he clearly didn't dig it... Work, professionalism, and fantastic acting chops - I mean you gotta believe this silly story! Couldn't stand the song before listening to this, now I'm singing along like a fool 😅

- - - although movie-scene related music isn't my first choice, it's ok for the purpose it was written (for specific movie scenes, and NOT to be considered serious artistry. The movie musical, in particularly the Elvis Travelogs are most definitely lost on the last several generations who form a lackluster opinion of elvis and are lead to believe this is the best he can do...... not realizing he was trapped in a 10 year movie contract and did the parts & music he was given (not that he chose),. Thank god for the 68 comeback, it was like a blazing nova in comparison to those flicks.

Why Elvis agreed to sing this dire rubbish is a mystery. It's a million miles away from his groundbreaking music of the '50s. He should have stood up to the Colonel and said enough is enough, but to Elvis's own detriment he didn't. He would complain to others about it, yet wouldn't confront the Colonel about it. Elvis was the star, while the Colonel was a con-artist who cared about money, and only money. He didn't have an artistic, creative bone in his body. Elvis would have been better served by a manager who cared about such things, but again, Elvis wouldn't get rid of him. I just think the story of the Colonel demanding money if Elvis wanted their collaboration to end is baloney. Elvis could have (and should have) got rid of the Colonel any time he pleased. Elvis could have made more significant films and music during the '60s if he had chosen to. While the Colonel was nothing more than a money-grabbing con artist, it was just as much Elvis' fault that he appeared in those films and recorded these crappy songs. As an Elvis fan of fifty years' standing, it pains me to say that Elvis was equally to blame.
