To me this is the song which defines the Elvis Presley of 1970. It was the first song he recorded in Nashville in June 1970 and it is a well crafted piece of adult contemporary pop with an interesting and rather difficult melodic line and a story that Elvis tells with commitment in the studio master in particular and the lyrics show how Elvis had matured both as an artist and entertainer.
The Elvis of the 50's or 60's pre-American Sound Studios could not, I believe, have carried this material off at least with such sound credibility. A real favourite of mine especially the studio master.
This video contains the full part with Elvis talking and joking to the audience some of which was edited and used in the original 1970 TTWII movie.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!

OMG just it - love him adlibbing before and after the song and the song is beautifully sung (did he really not like singing it or was he joking?). He just looks and sounds so gorgeous - how can you not love this man - just amazing 🎶💙🎵🎤🎧

I use to have a VHS tape called Elvis the Lost Performances. I've been seeing lots of rare Elvis material popup around youtube that I didn't know existed back in the 90s.. For example, recently saw the full rehearsal for Elvis on Tour from March 72, which is amazing footage. I wish I could find some high quality footage of that. Anyway, back to my point. That VHS tape would have lots of songs where he had on the red ladder suit and so on. I'd love to see a full "red ladder" suit show from start to finish. Was that entire thing filmed? On the same note, the entire chain-suit show. Every time I see these concerts, they are always broken up. It'd be nice to see them finally as though we were there. If you have already done something like that, let me know. Oh one more thought, I always loved the Imperials pre-show intro that would be before the shows back then. If there's recorded pre show stuff love to hear any of that. Great channel as always.

Ok, Mike lots to get through there so lets take them one at a time. The Red Ladder Suit - this was Elvis' 13 August 1970 dinner show and the sixth and final show during main production of That's The Way It Is. By this point, the director Denis Sanders had almost all of the footage he required so this show was used for Elvis to included songs that were required as part of the movie agreement. However, because of this only around twenty five minutes of this show was filmed with the director only capturing songs that Elvis hadn't yet performed during filming up to that point. As it turned out none of that footage was used in the original movie as the director felt that a non white suit ruined the illusion of a complete show, The Chain suit show .- of the other five shows that MGM filmed, Elvis wore the chain suit twice, during consecutive midnight shows on 11 and 12 August. However, none of the six shows were filmed in their entirety and all the footage presented on the channel is all that was filmed. Originally, I did all shows in their entirety with audio only in the gaps where no film exists but KZbin will not accept it in that complete form. So.....they have been broken up and exist also as separate playlists for each show so that you can still watch and hear them in their entirety. Hope this help MIke.
