Elvis Stojko (CAN) - 1993 World Figure Skating Championships, Men's Free Skate

Prague, CZECHOSLOVAKIA - 1993 World Figure Skating Championships, Men's Free Skate - This was the first season where the ISU held a Qualifying Round at Worlds. Although it did not counted toward the overall placements at the time, only the Top 12 from each of the 2 Qualifying Groups would advance to the Technical Program portion of the competition. Elvis Stojko of Canada placed 2nd in the Free Skate and ended moving up from 5th Place to win the Silver Medal.

Interestingly this is the Elvis I prefer the most, the 93 & 94 Elvis. His presentation marks increased in the mid-late 90s, but outside of him increasingly doing the quad during that period, I found his skating much more appealing in 93 & 94. There's a fresh youthful energy present in his performance during this period. Love the timing on the landing of the 2nd triple axel in this performance. Perfect with the music.

For me ... his absolutely best performance. Jumps, speed, style, smooth choreography. Amazing.

i just don't get it...i think he's a terrific artistic skater. different from the others...but his music is always soaring and he matches it. he's just one of my favorite skaters of all time. and he should have gotten all 5.9s technically.

This deserved the first place in the FS, absolutely! I can't understand how could a judge give 5.8 to Browning's four triples program and the same mark to this seven triples program!

Because skating is not just jumps.

@@luvmuzik4me But without the jumps, you cannot get into the top 3-6 in a competition. Skating quality can only get you up so high. Jumps is the main and probably the most aspect since figure skating is a sport.

Great content and performed well, especially the jumps. Technical merit was his strength, but some of the judges went a little over board in giving excessively low artistic marks.

Terrific. I can see why his artistic marks were so low (but a 5.4 is ridiculous) because the choreography is really lacking in this program, particularly in contrast to Kurt' masterpiece of a program. I think 5.6, 5.7 for the artistic mark is fair. But the technical marks should have been 5.9's straight across. Jumps were flawless. I'm a little confused, though. He did two triple axels, two triple lutzes and two triple toes. Aren't skaters only allowed to repeat two jumps, or was the rule different back then?

I think he only did one triple toe; his first jump was a triple flip.
