Thank you for another heart-felt reaction to Angelina. Your reactions to her performances are always worth watching. The song was written by Mark James, an American singer/songwriter, who recorded it the year it was written. The best known version, however, was that done by Elvis Presley. It was his last No 1 song. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, Mark James is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song. The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family. Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).

Angelina loves doing the songs of the greats like Elvis, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Queen, and the legends of Jazz and blues. Doing covers of such singers would scare seasoned singers, but not Angelina! She can do any genre!

My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.

I like your interpretation of the children's appearance. Hitherto I have expressed the opinion that their appearance cements in everyone's mind the importance of family to her but, in terms of the lyrics of the song, am now inclined to agree with you. Just goes to show that even an ancient ( and I certainly am that) is able to be open-minded enough to consider alternatives. 🙂

Her grandmother produced this video as she is a famous artist in her own right, Mery Zemani. The two littlest girls in the video are Angelina's cousins and the older girl sitting in the chair is her younger sister Juliette.

At 16. Released June 22, 2022. By August, 2023, 4.6 Million views on KZbin alone. Angelina starts off with the bridge, completely different from anyone else; and then, begins with the opening line of the song. Her beehive hairdo, is in the homage to Priscilla...many photographs of her hair exactly like that. And a leather outfit he later wore. The guitar is the Elvis 1968 "Comeback" Guitar. Rob Christie actually owns this one. The two young cousins, are Uncle/Manager Michael's children. The young girl is her sister, Juliette. Angelina had a framed photo of Elvis in the Service, at the location. Such respect. Rob Christie is on the piano. (Currently Republic Records award winning Studio Director) Angelina is both Director & Producer on this!😇🌺

Sir, the little girls are her cousins, the other girl is her beloved younger sister Juliette, 6 years younger. The shop belongs to friends of her family, at least I understand this so. She did 3 song here. First one is "My funny Valentine", when she scouted this shop. Second you just saw and third one is "I have nothing" Whitney Houston tribute. The thing to understand AJ is, that she began very early, practicing and concentrated her whole being on her craft. At 17 she has already more experience than most singers at age 30 have. She traveled the world, giving concerts, often fundraisers and charities. She sang in Korea in front of more than forty thousand people at age 11, YES exactly. She sang in Japan (her granddads homecountry) in front of almost a complete japanese audience..... in Japanese!!!! The papers in Tokyo were over the moon how good her pronunciation is. When she met the famous shoeless girl and talked to her, she spoke persian Farsi, AT SIX. A few weeks back she told us, that she is composing every day, OK almost every day. Since age 10, she wrote more than 100 songs. As I said, her experience is greater than most musicians twice her age. I hope I could help out. Elmar from Germany

Who would think to take a Vegas-style Elvis song, strip it of its pop trappings, slow down the tempo, and then rearrange the song structure to bring out the true intent and meaning of the lyrics? Only Angelina Jordan does this really well and, you are right, Elvis would be proud.

There are people who will not believe that she is not somehow related to Elvis. If you watch carefully she even does the lopsided lip curl when singing NOW IM THE FOOL. ...personally I find that hilarious...but I suppose its a compliment, even if too far fetched.

This is my absolute favorite Performance by Angelina Jordan. As mentioned, that is Rob Christie at the piano. Not only a grammy winning musician but the head of Production for Republic Records LA. He is also the head of the Team surrounding AJ. All of them seasoned pros. When Angelina enters the scene with Rob She starts just as Rob hits that big note on the piano and AJ comes in with power and that smooth velvety voice that immediately grabs your attention and never lets it go. The video was immaculate and represented AJ's Journey through the greatest classics of all time experienced by her as she grew up. At the same time it is another great tribute to Elvis and Priscilla. The black leather jumpsuit, the guitar used in his '68 comeback special and of course the hair a nod to Priscilla Presley whom Angelina had met at the premiere of the Elvis movie I believe or just before it and where I believe she met Austin Butler. Please correct me if I got that wrong because I want to know. You are right it is a completely different song. She starts with the second verse I believe and it gives a whole new meaning to the song. Much more intimate and personal. Many have said they finally understood the meaning of the lyrics for the first time. Elvis was much faster more upbeat and less personal as if the lyrics was secondary to the performance. Absolutely the most stunningly beautiful rendition ever created for this song. IMO I overwhelmingly prefer Angelina's rendition. Thank you for the wonderful reaction. Loving your journey. 🔥🔥🔥♥👣

The Norwegian presenter says they are happy to hear this before Angelina travels to the US. That context gives this song extra depth. It was filmed on a rooftop in Oslo. Thanks for another great reaction to & appreciation of another amazing performance by Angelina where she reinterprets this well known Elvis song & delivers her own emotional masterpiece. Definitely a family production - the Executive Producer Mery Zamani is Angelina's grandmother, the 2 youngest girls are Angelina's cousins & the older girl is Angelina's younger sister Juliette. It is also a great tribute to Elvis - Angelina's beehive hairdo is reminiscent of Priscilla Presley & Angelina's black leather jump suit & red Hagstrom guitar are just like those that Elvis had at his "Comeback Tour". I know that you've listened to some of her earlier songs - but on order to get an even better understanding of her musical roots, I highly recommend that you go all the way back to her Norways Got Talent audition singing the Billie Holiday classic Gloomy Sunday - at age 7. (Please select a video with English subtitles because while Angelina sings in English, the narrator & judges are speaking Norwegian.) Thank you. This is Angelina hitting on all cylinders. It’s a stunning video: cinematically, musically, vocally, and artistically. We expect a lot from Angelina, and she never disappoints us. Her respect for the song and for Elvis is clear, but we understand every word and nuance when Angelina sings these lyrics. My only quibble with your review is your statement that this was the best cover of this song. For me, this was the best version of Suspicious Minds I’ve ever heard.

Great reaction, my friend 🙂 Yes, Angelina is a very, very special singer. The man on the piano is Rob Christie, artistic director of her record label, Republic Records. He is also the winner of a few Grammy awards, and have been nominated for several. He has been accompanying her on quite a few songs, for instance her Adele covers "All I Ask" and "Easy On Me". They are both studio recordings from the RR studio and you REALLY need to check them out . She was a very young 15 years old, or possibly still 14 in the All I Ask cover, and she was 15 in the Easy On Me cover. The way I see it, Angelina blatantly out-sings Adele in both these performances. And if I am to be totally honest with you, I think the same is the case with all 13 of her Adele covers. Adele is Angelina's biggest idol among the contemporary artists, but stands no chance against artists like Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and a lot of other amazing jazz greats. Jazz is where her heart is for sure, but she can sing just about anything she wants. So far she has covered songs spanning at least 8 different genres, by at least 80 different artists, and she nails it all. Often times performing the songs better than the original artist. But please go ahead and react to the two Adele songs I mentioned, as they rank very high on most of her fans' favorite list. Much love and respect from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

Please have you subscribed to both her chanels. Her subscribers are not going up. I know Utube keeps offering me reaction chanels but not hers. I have to search for her chanels repetitively. She has given us 10 years of free music its time we supported her. If we do not she will not have the success we keep predicting. I mean her new EP is full of hits but have you heard any on the radio?

The lack of subscriber involvement in supporting Angelina baffles me. Her Official KZbin website shows she has 826,000 subscribers. If only 5.0% of those watched and listened to every performance, each would immediately get 41,300 views. Then KZbin would have to take notice.
