It was VERY different. Many were married at 16 to men older. And she was going one way or another. If you didn’t live during the 50’s-60’s, then you cannot comprehend the differences in culture at that time. And Europe was even more so. Her family wasn’t European but they did live in Europe at that time. I’m sure that the ways of the world had an affect on their decision making. Again, totally different era. I was a good student…good girl and took off with a rock god at age 15. My parents did everything possible to keep me home. I snuck around and did it anyway. It was the 70’s. The cultural shift began in the 80’s. There was no WOKE before that

It’s probably because it was more acceptable back in the early days….and it’s not today. My grandfather was 20 when he married my 13 year old grandma and they both had 14 children. They both celebrated their 75 wedding anniversary just shortly before he passed away. Even though the age difference would raise eyebrows today, their marriage obviously worked unlike most marriages today.

Its a bit weird though than it became a huge scandal when Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin, he almost destroyed his career because of that, while it wasnt the same with Elvis. He married Priscilla when she was an adult, but yet people knew that she was very young when they met. I thought it was quite disturbing as a kid. But in America some famous people seems often to be able to do whatever they want without any problem. I doubt that her parents would let her do the same if Elvis was an ordinary guy.

Wow!! 80s sensitivity "What did you think of his last year's, the fat, bloated Elvis?" Class act Barbara Walters. I watched my own good looking son, turn into a person who drank, used pills and other drugs, to a swollen, very ill person by 32. He didn't know he had the beginning of liver failure and his continued use made me look more like his sister than mother. We had a Drs appointment the day after he died, at 33. Sometimes the excess weight is fluid retention and compulsive eating between binges. My boy by autopsy showed all the diagnosis post mortem of what alcohol and drugs can do. Breaks my heart that Elvis was made fun of by tabloids and even years later. I'm glad the movie came out and showed how he became dependent on drugs and what it does to someone. Even the excessive sweat my son had. If given 24 hours, maybe I'd still have him. I mourn Lisa Marie because as a mother, you never wrap your mind around your child leaving the Earth before you. I think Priscilla answered every question asked, with grace and honesty-as best as she could CONSIDERING she was clearly groomed and manipulated as a child and him being adult. She didn’t get the chance to grow up in the normal adolescence into adult stages of life so give her some grace-this was also 1985, a very different time in itself to disclose this dysfunctional relationship.
