Elvis Presley "Gospel Production Number" Live at the '68 Comeback Special
Buy/listen: Elvis.lnk.to/6...
About the track:
While Elvis Presley’s 1968 television special was in part a “back-to-basics” production, it still packed the second-to-none theatrics fans of The King had always expected. This lively gospel number, featuring some of Elvis’ favorite hymns, shows what made him such a legendary performer. ’68 Comeback Special: 50th Anniversary Edition, a new 5CD/2BD box set available on November 30, features every magic moment from the filming of this classic production.

Elvis was a black brother in a white body…….I really miss him. There will Never ever be another Elvis. I’m a black man who grew up in the Early 70’s. So many lies have been written about this man from both black and white people. Instead we should be happy about the legacy which he left us all. R.I.P Elvis. We love you brother.

Yeah so true. It all boils down to extreme jealousy since the 50's. He was the ultimate performer in looks, natural talent, charisma, popularity, phenomenal voice, you name it, Elvis had it! He had so many enemies because of extreme jealousy against him.

I'm with you Judy, we only understand why we have to say it. Because you have alot of ignorant ass people out there. Ignorance don't have a color, neither does music and how it makes you feel. There were alot of black people who loved Elvis and didn't give a shit about who knew. Elvis acknowledged where Rock truly came from, he was very authentic and real, and brave for even making these statements at that time, it was taboo and prohibited. God bless you Elvis.

I had an opportunity to talk to the Stamps and the Imperials Quartet back in 2008. They told me Elvis loved the Gospel segments of his concerts the best. He sang "Peace in The Valley" on Ed Sullivan with the Jordanaires in 1957 at the height of his rock and roll fame and RCA released an Extended Play 45rpm that same year. It should come as no surprise that Elvis 3 Grammy Awards all were for his gospel recordings.

I feel very strongly about the comment with Elvis Presley was the of the very highest spiritual gospel singer that my ears have ever heard ! It's just truly sad that he went beyond the call to satisfy his FANS to no end as he became a prisoner in his own world ! There's only one and I will not call him a KING as there's only ONE with the LORD ,JESUS CHRIST ! He surely blessed all music LOVERS with the time that Mr. ELVIS PRESLEY entertained the entire world with his humbleness for as huge of a SUPERSTAR that he was ! RIP Mr. ELVIS PRESLEY !

Have you noticed that whatever genres of music Elvis performs he OWNS it!.. Gospel, rock, blues, country, r&b even semi-operatic music. How can one artist master so many different styles of music? Then even on top of that, he owns the stage, the looks, the style, the moves, the electricity, and that huge charisma that commands your attention! Most artists struggle to be really good in any one department, Elvis mastered them all. Elvis is the King of the mountain. Superhuman!

Elvis Presley changed and talks about his past, but he has his fans in his mind....As you listen to Pastor Bob Joyce (Elvis) in this video when you go to 10:15 he hints about his life before! Interesting isn't it? Here are the words that he says (go to 10:15 in the video): "There is something about this man, that is so appealing to me. That I am not going to concern ... I'm not going to concern myself with what I was and what I had before. Because Jesus makes a difference in my life. There is something about Jesus that causes me not to even be so concerned about my life that I had before. Or my problems or whatever it is that I had in life. Suddenly things have changed, my mind has changed, my affections, my ah ... interests has changed. I'm not interested in how many fish I can catch today. I'm interested to see what Jesus is going to do next. Can you imagine walking with Jesus everywhere you went. Listen what I am telling you this morning is reality." Ok.. so here is the deal.. I know how hard it is to believe that Elvis is still alive. But to be alive and to be a preacher too. Now that is going to far right? Well NO. Not if you remember how much he loved God and how he was raised. Pastor Bob is preaching because he was raised to love Jesus. Elvis and Bob have that in common. Here is the real issue that people have. To believe that Elvis is still alive means that you have to WAKE UP to the real reality of things. Not everything you see or hear is true. Most people are happy just living in a dream world of false reality. Waking up when you are enjoying your sleep is not fun. Just try and wake someone up sometime when they are really tired and sleeping well.. You may get a black eye. So it's ok. No hard feelings here. You can believe what ever you want. I chose to wake up and live in a different reality. One where Elvis never died because he wanted to actually live. Elvis had no life. He was a prisoner in his own home. He couldn't even go to the store without being mobbed. People tried to tear his cloths off his body. He was never able to be himself, he had to always be Elvis. Well he put Elvis to rest in 1977. He died so that he could live. Now after all this time, he wants the world to know that He didn't do this only for personal reasons. He did it because he had no other alternative. You see Jesus said.. "If you loose your life for my sake you shall find it." Elvis needed to get away from Elvis and become a regular man so he could concentrate on Jesus and heal. Elvis was under a tremendous amount of pressure. People idolized him as if he were a god. But there is only ONE GOD! Elvis is not him. God is God and man is man. We can not keep on idolizing men and women. We need to only idolize God. If there is anything in this world that Elvis would love to do, that would be to come back to the public eye as himself and re start his music, preach the gospel and just be BOB. Can we get a big Amen for Bob? Let me tell you something.. I sure wouldn't mind giving this wonderful man my blessing.. He sure does deserve it. After all he still is the greatest singer in history. The "King Of Rock n Roll" .. But in reality he is just a regular man like you and me that loves God and Music. Give him a chance folks. He has a message that will knock your socks off and potentially save this stinking world.

For those wondering what exactly Presley brought to the production, besides his voice, it was that he wasn’t overwhelmed by the sets, the extras, the lights. He integrates when he needs to, and takes the lead in every sequence. This gospel sequence may be his most sincere section. Sure, he could rock like crazy, croon a tender pop song, even do juke joint level blues. But when he brought his gospel voice, that’s the purest Elvis. Somewhere Up Above and Saved are powerhouse takes. It’s him at a peak, which is better than just about anyone else.

Elvis with the Sweet Inspirations. That was brave for 1968. MLK had just been assassinated, racial tensions were high in the US, and this world famous white singer from the South (Mississippi originally) comes out flanked by his very own version of The Temptations. That must have taken a lot of courage.

I think Prescilla is doing her utmost to keep his memory preserved. I don't suppose its all selfless on her part, after all, Elvis's memory is her income - but she and her team put a lot of effort in to keep the fans happy. In an ideal world, she would've just got on with her life many years ago. It can't be fun for her to be asked "do you still miss him?". The answer has to be "no", but for the fans' sake, she has to say yes. It keeps the romance of it all alive and she knows that. She (and her team) keeps his legacy perfectly alive.

Elvis won all three of his GRAMMY Awards in gospel categories. He took home the Best Inspirational Performance category for 1972 for "He Touched Me"; two years later he won that category again for a live version of "How Great Thou Art." In total, Elvis collected 14 GRAMMY nominations over his career. He received his first three at the 2nd GRAMMY Awards in 1960: "A Big Hunk O' Love" nabbed Best Rhythm & Blues Performance and Best Performance By A "Top 40" Artist nominations while "A Fool Such As I" scored a nod for Record Of The Year. He would earn another Record Of The Year nomination the following year for "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" Seven classic Elvis singles have been inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame. Among rock artists, only the Beatles (15) and Bob Dylan (nine) equal or surpass his total.
