@Joana Rose Absolutely. For one, even towards the end he wasn't that overweight. It was more of a bloating issue. Secondly, funny how you ridicule him for picking on Mike's condition from health issues when Elvis was in the same boat. Finally, even if he was morbidly obese, it would still be a far better fate to looking like a life version of Jeff the Killer like Michael did.

Aurea Mediocritas To be brutally honest, John Lennon has a point. It’s true that Black people created the sounds that would make rock and roll what it is, but not even Chuck Berry could say, “Let there be light”, to the movement like Elvis did. Odd thing is African Americans of the time wrote a lot of sexually explicit lyrics which just didn’t sell very well. Elvis purified it, made it about love and nothing else. That was what John Lennon was referring to.
@Aerochalklate

Top Secret the purifying doesn't make sense just the fact that he was electrifying and energetic like care free changed the culture forever
@topsecret1837
@topsecret1837 4 жыл бұрын
Aerochalklate I’m not trying to be racist when I’m saying that. Black people have the credit of actually creating the genre from dance and R&B which they actually championed. But coming from the blues also brought a lot of grit to it because of the sexual references and a strong attack. Elvis grew up in the south and took much part in Gospel (and that is likely why he made it purely about love, commercializing the sound by dialing back the aggression which at the time wasn’t taking too much to the public), and not only did it influence the sound of the genre to come but it explains his post ‘69 attire and style of performing. Still don’t believe me? Here’s an Elvis number from ‘55: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnKYeXioi6pspas

Elvis, the King of Cool. When artist's talk about "originality" and the "whole package", this is a prime example of just that- raw, fresh charismatic stage presence and dynamism at its peak. Nobody looked, moved or sung like Elvis. He was disarmingly beautiful; his voice was annointed by God, and he was born to entertain and kick down doors when other performers were still learning how to ring the bell. Seriously, Elvis was ahead of his time!

@@Jayess-c if that were true Elvis never would have sounded this good in this performance. Elvis was addicted to all sorts of prescription medications by this time. In fact Elvis was addicted to sedatives and sleeping medications in high school (before he was even famous) due to extreme insomnia. He was dependent on them by this time plus addicted to pain medication and other prescription medications due to the army. It never seemed to affect his singing as you can see from this video. It should be noted Elvis wasn’t addicted to alcohol. It is a very known fact that he seldom drank.

Well, they were pretty used to it by 1968. Elvis created mass hysteria in the 50s and Beatles did it in the mid 60s. Men just had to deal with it I guess. It hasnt gone away but just expanded from girls going crazy for men to going crazy over both male and female artists. The behaviour was a phenomenon in the 50s and 60s and many used it to explain why women shouldnt be in power. It was seen as momentary insanity and that women could not control their feelings. And now, in 2019 with all the crazy SJW feminists out there, who can disagree? LOL

This man is mesmerizing!! How old is this recording? And I can’t take my eyes off of him. He was a bright light. The movie “Elvis” has got me watching all his videos. Austin Butler did an incredible job bringing back Elvis. I knew about Elvis, but never really listened or watched him. But today? In 2022, I’m appreciating Elvis and understand why he still lives on.

This was from the 1968 "Comeback Special", where Elvis finally got to break away from all the so-so formulaic 1960's movies the Colonel got him stuck in and get back to his roots; doing what he most enjoyed; made him famous in the first place. 😃🥰

The show is so amazing! The best live music show ever! Here we really have Elvis at his best! But I can't imagine how well they manage to have such an amorphous audience. They clearly avoided having an audience of Elvis fans because they would have been uncontrollable and would have climbed the stage...

The Very Second Elvis Appeared, Every Girl In the Movie Theater , (and there were allot) Started Screaming, & Kept on Screaming for a Long Time...Memories. Yes~

@@harrythedirty4256 very true, this is where he's most versatile in singing, because he sang many genres in this live special, rock, Rnb, Gospel, Ballad, country and Pop. Which makes this era is where elvis is at his best, only if he manage to stay like this till in the 70s he could've battlr along MJ in the 80s era
