Great job on your backhand shot. Ema! Your form is already looking good, and I'm glad to hear that you're looking to improve it even further. Focusing on getting more turn and keeping your shoulder blade below your chin is a fantastic way to do so. By incorporating these techniques, you'll be able to generate more power and control in your shot. Great work! oth of you, guys!

No tennis training is complete without matches. Lots and lots and lots of matches ! Getting in shape and technical drills are the core aspects of your game but what makes a great tennis player is often translated into how many games have you put under your belt in the past few YEARS. If you have the mental toughness to lose many, many games, and keep going at it with the same level of motivation as when you started, then you are on the right track. High level, competitive tennis, is a ruthless world.

It is a clay court, isn't it ? Never seen a court like this before/ unusual colour?
@dustyroot4708
@dustyroot4708 Жыл бұрын
It’s a Har-Tru clay court. Most common type of clay court in the U.S. The color is from the basalt rocks mined from Virginia.

“Good” is a subjective term so “consensus” may be a bit of a stretch. It all depends on whom you ask and what they grew up playing on. What is true is that it requires far less money and maintenance. The main reason however is US climates just aren’t conducive to maintaining a red clay court year round which is why even the wealthiest clubs still choose not to have them and why high level tournaments don’t have them. It’s like an indoor hard court in the South. It wouldn’t make sense.

when should you hit airborne ? i thought that being stable (ie with your feet on the ground during strokes) is a rule
@grevinlew
@grevinlew Жыл бұрын
That was a "rule," particularly when I was learning to play back in the dark ages. Modern technique is COMPLETELY different. Watch videos of Federer, and you'll see when he's driving the ball he'll have both feet off the ground at the point of contact.

I think her trying to change the forehand in such a short time is liable to only screw up her natural timing which will lead to worse results. It she had much more time to change it, then that would be OK...
@MrKevinlpowell
@MrKevinlpowell Жыл бұрын
I’d say her backhand has too much action on the backswing which is affecting her consistency. Novak brings his racket straight back and straight forward and he drops the racket head with his wrists on his forward swing. The power on the two hander comes mostly from trunk rotation. If she keeps the arms straight on her backswing it will improve her backhand.
@parkercrossland410

Most women's players need to be loopier for power generation. It's more pronounced on the forehand, but most do it on the backhand as well. A wta player with djokers backhand mechanics will get punished because of the reduction in power.

I'm certainly no tennis expert but, I believe every aspect of Ema's tennis game and her life in general could benefit from addressing the posture of her upper torso. Perhaps it's a simple range of motion or flexibility issue that could be addressed with some physical therapy? Her shoulders are rolled forward and the upper spine has a forward curve, these things make it impossible to obtain an ideal balance and rotation.
@hattorihanzo158

I do have a similar posture...maybe not as pronounced as her, but because of it, I'm having problems with my serve, also.

The type of backhand racquet take back in the first four minutes in this video will drain your body. Go for Alcaraz type backhand racquet takeback on your left side, rather close to tbe body. On the forehand psrt, yiu naturally have a back bend like a stoop, this will stop yiu in putting body weight into thr shoy, msy be just bend using knees, not by shoulders. Also, on your forehand have little open stance by hsbe a little more wider stance by keeping front leg little more forward.

Why don’t ATP players tend to stay low on their backhands as much when the ball comes fast at their feet?
@user-oj7co5wm8g
@user-oj7co5wm8g Жыл бұрын
Men tend to have the strength to “arm” those balls back. Or “pick them up”. Women generate their power more from the rotation which cant happen without their base. So if they want the ball to get back over via rotation, getting low to meet the ball isn’t as much of a choice as it is a physiological necessity.
@jimmac6367
@jimmac6367 8 ай бұрын
Just my opinion. Ema hits the ball with elbows bent so much that she has limited rotational power and frequently gets in her own way. She needs to hit the ball further away from her body with straighter arms.

Save yourself.. Age 30, power- speed-fitness a challenge. Never broke top 400 in singles or top 100 in doubles and this is when you were in your prime. You got titles in singles and doubles which is really good, but they were all in the lower-level ITF. You have nothing to prove. You made it to the pro level, which a very small percentage of tennis players will never accomplish. Enjoy your retirement: Keep teaching, maybe play some League tennis or exhibitions like Nick set up a couple of months ago. It will be next to impossible to qualify for ITF events better still WTA. You seem like a nice person. Would not want to see you have to try and grind it out as well as the expense just to come up short. It ain't worth it..🙁

That’s interesting. Where’s the cut of for wta vs an itf player like what ranking?
@reuelray
@reuelray Жыл бұрын
@@krob2327 there are three mainstream professional levels in tennis. The ITF or futures circuit. The Challenger circuit. The ATP men's senior circuit. The WTA women's senior circuit. She has absolutely zero chance to qualify for a WTA tournament, won't make it to the qualifying rounds and definitely will not receive a wildcard. She will be stuck in the bottom of the ITF. The ITF only employ the top 750 rank players. These young hungry players will not allow a 30 year old who now has a family and been out of the business for 7 or 8 years, to do anything. The elite top tier players both men and women are machines. They will rip your heart out. As for your question about the ITF versus the WTA, there used to be a time when a player could get WTA or ATP points from ITF and Challenger. The ITF has their own point system that does not translate to WTA or ATP anymore. She will probably do well in pickleball or paddle ball, but tennis is a big No-No.🤔

@@reuelray interesting, thanks. I mean to me she seems like a great player but I totally understand your point there’s a huge gap between her previous top ranking and the wta tour proper. It’s disappointing if this series is then not all it seems....
@reuelray
@reuelray Жыл бұрын
@@krob2327 professional tennis players are assassins. Male players are more deadly. They will hop on an amateur and take their soul. The higher they are rated and or ranked, the worst it is for non pros. They are going to ace that person almost every time, definitely win the point off of the serve all the time. They are going to take the amateur opponent's serves and dump them in the toilet. I have seen this stuff up close. Some 5.0 fool get their azz handed back to them. Pros are pros for a reason. Just get it out of your mind, a 5.0 is not a pro. Even Nick has never lost to a 5.0 and he's in his 40s. He will however get murdered buy a high rated pro. It wouldn't be close. I'm going to wrap it up for good. This young lady is a good amateur. Do you really think she can compete with Sabalenka, Jessica, Iga, Coco and company? It will be 00 slam dunk skunk. I hope people besides you are paying attention. With great training, skill set, experience, enhanced equipment and balls; OG's like me saw the day when these Androids with souped-up equipment would take the game at levels we could not imagine. The future is now, enjoy it!
