1) power comes from left leg. left, right, hit 2) pull with right and push with left. Contact point out infront. Let go off left hand. Push boths and in the target direction all the way up

I began learning tennis late and that "pushing off with your left foot for power" technique is probably the single most important tip I've had for backhand power. Thank you

Wow awesome lesson! Winston was hitting high level backhands at the end there! If you could do a lesson on the forehand and how you should use the lower body to generate power, that would be awesome👍

Crazy improvement with small corrections! There are so many pros with an outstanding backhand, like Andy Murray, Zverev or Nadal. In the past we had Marat Safin, Kafelnikov and Björn Borg. Borg was actually always finishing the backhand with one hand, like in the exercise! He really understood how to hit the ball in front of the body.

what the heck? that backhand improved SO MUCH! but I wanna see it on future matches...that will be a good test. but from what I've seen so far the upgrade was huge! you are an outstanding coach imo, wish there were more like you.

I so appreciate your coaching approach. Your focus on a stable base, weight transfer and contact point let the other "checkpoints" of the swing (e.g., racket drop, pulling with right hand, turning/flipping hands) occur naturally. IMO there are way too many videos trying to teach the swing by focusing on these moves which you can't really consciously perform in the correct way. I have learned a ton and simplified my swing by watching these videos!

Finally got a win over a guy who consistently beat me from exploiting my backhand. I watched this video last night before playing him today and tried to really focus on that footwork and contact point and was able to really hold strong on the backhand. I even hit a couple winners with it! Still obviously needs some work but the confidence helped a ton. I'm so hyped right now, thank you Karue!

I knew his backhand looked better for a reason! The game changer for leveling up my backhand was the loosening up on the ATP flip and of course the kinetic chain on the legs. But mostly it’s the anticipating and actually getting to the ball that has had the most impact.

Wow, I had a hard time believing it when you first mentioned the role of the dominant hand in the two-hander. But I went and tried this and right away I could see a big improvement in the consistency and feel of my backhand. I’ll have to keep working on this, but it’s already been super insightful. Thanks again Karue for some of the best tennis content on KZbin!

Really? That’s like the day 1 lesson of learning a backhand, the dominant hand does all the work, the other hand is basically just there to guide
@chinaski5
@chinaski5 Жыл бұрын
@@daveobrien2365 I had always heard it emphasized the other way-that the dominant hand is there to guide, and the left (for right-handers) should do the most work. Like a forehand in reverse.

Hi Karue, in a video 2 years ago you mentioned the backhand being like a lefty forehand and it should feel like pushing with the left arm, not pulling with the right. Here you are teaching the opposite and that the right arm should be dominant. Is that based on new insights? Just curious. Excellent content, I am struggling with backhand consistency and often hit them long because of a slighty open racket face. I will try the same drills you use here, thanks again!

I took a screen recording at 2:50 - for my teenage daughter since she’s got an attention span of a common house fly (2sec at best) and sent her the clip. “Where do you think power comes from”? She goes like “ aaaahhh now I get it” lmao! 😂 Great content thanks for the upload! Edit: Also at 4:14 the “left - right - hit” is very familiar, def a great way to get into the Rhythm for the BH

Hi @Karue. Love your content and your vibe 👍 I try to switch from a one handed backhand (lefty) to a 2 handed one. I'd just like a precision on the "in front of the hip" contact point. I know 2HBH contact point should be less deep (into the court) the the 1HBH. Could you tell how "far" in front you should make contact with the ball ? (as your front foot, 1 foot ahead ?...) Would much appreciate a hint on the point.

hey karue, thanks for alle the helpful videos and your tips. I am playing with a one handed backhand and i would love to hear your take about it. Do you feel a difference in the shot when you play against a one hander? Has it less or more spin? When is it the most dangerous and what is your approach playing against one handers compared to two handers? There is just very few good content about the one hander and i always trust you with your tennis insights because you actually play pro! maybe you could even make a video for the one hander? even that you are not playing with one, it would still be better than most of them out there! thanks and keep it up!
