It might not be that simple. The unification fight ( which will most likely be a series of 2 or 3 fights) can only happen if: A. Wilder steps aside B. The various sanctioning bodies allow Fury and Joshua to postpone their mandatory defences (Fury has 1, Joshua has 2 ) C. Corona virus pandemic is over. So Wilder could have a pretty long wait - best part of 2 years maybe - for a slot in the timetable to get another shot And once that time comes around he won't get offered another shot out of the goodness of the champ's heart - he's going to have to earn it by beating the best contenders in the division while he waits, which is pretty unlikely given his past history. So if Wilder wants another title shot - even a totally hopless one like a Fury fight - his only option is to go for the rematch

GotDramaAllergy Froch v Calzaghe would go the same way as Lacey v Calzaghe. He’s too flat footed and makes this a boxing lesson for Froch. I don’t know why anyone talks like it would be a good fight unless you just enjoy seeing Joes boxing skills.

It's an impossibility to place fighters from different eras against each other, but we all have our thoughts and ideas which will never be proved, so here's mine lol. Joe Calzaghe out points a very tough and super game Carl Froch by his sheer punches in bunches numbers and his ability to adjust styles. Tyson fights Ali and gets T.K.O'd because Ali takes as long as he wishes to literally pull Mike apart with crazy foot movement and fast, crazily accurate, punches from all angles. Ali's chin was also as tough as they get. Big George vs Iron Mike...... Mike tucks his chin in tight and goes forth on a path of total destruction, and comes up against a German Tiger tank that only knows one movement.....Forwards! George didn't know what being hit hard felt like, his ONLY focus was to punch through the other human with no regard for thought or pride. Mike's only failing in Boxing was not being able to hyper focus when he couldn't bully the man in front of him. There were very few but they were there. He would lose control of his own mindset and as a result his focus on the fight at hand. George Foreman wins in 7 rounds. K.O or T.K.O. Lennox Lewis vs Riddick Bowe Lennox pugilises the shit out of Riddick and jabs the hell out of him and K.O's with a right uppercut followed a one two wide left and right. Lennox had the mental and physical game on Riddick. All of these guys were elite dudes and we are splitting hairs but they are giant gaps at that level. We will never know, but that's my take lol.

I think with Calzaghe a lot of the problem was he had Frank Warren as a promoter and Frank tends to look after his fighters to much and probably failed to make bigger fights for joe earlier in his career and also didn't want to spend the money on making the fights for him. Also I know he had his injuries which didnt help but I never see anyone mention who his promoter was....I feel if Eddie was around when Calzaghe was in his prime he would have been able to get the bigger fights sooner. People also fail to mention that when Joe fought Roy Jones jr and Hopkins in particular....Joe wasnt in his prime either....with his crumbling hands....I only ever hear people saying he fought them two when they werent in they're prime but truth be told neither was he...he perhaps just wasnt as far from his prime as they were.

@neils1952

Ref the Wilder vs Fury step aside discussion, I don't agree with Eddie for a couple of reasons, firstly his comparable example of AJ stepping aside after the 1st Ruiz Jr fight...difference there is that AJ was doing fine in that fight (probably winning the argument) until round 3..AJ made the mistake of assuming when he dropped Ruiz Jr that he was ready to be taken out, he wasn't and AJ got clipped going for the finish, from that point onwards AJ couldn't recover sufficiently well enough to get himself back in the fight and that was compounded by the success Ruiz Jr had in that 3rd round enthusing the usually plodding Ruiz Jr into being much more aggressive thus preventing AJ from resting and getting himself back together. With Wilder vs Fury there was no mistake on Wilder's part, he was simply outboxed, outworked, outmanned, beaten up and basically bullied by a much bigger, stronger man than him...the point is when AJ went to fight Ruiz Jr 2nd time around AJ had a clear fight plan and strategy that he knew would allow him to control Ruiz Jr, he had mistakes he made in fight 1 that he could eradicate in fight 2 and that adjustment was almost exclusively in his own hands to employ. Wilder doesn't have that, there are little or no adjustments Wilder has available to him when he fights Fury for the 3rd time that he can make which are likely to result in him having any noticeable change of fortune against Fury, whether Wilder fairs better against Fury in fight 3 is more down to the way Fury chooses to fight..if Wilder lucky Fury will try the same tactics again and that way at least he will be familiar with what Fury's doing and he can try to exploit any learnings he gleaned from fight 2, if he's unlucky Fury will resort to hit and move which will give him even less chance of beating him given that Fury will offer less opportunity for Wilder to land with those tactics. Secondly (and this would have applied to AJ as well in his 2nd fight with Ruiz Jr, although it would have been seen as more of a misstep if AJ had done this), Wilder taking step aside money to allow AJ vs Fury to happen is not only an option it's a good one on 2 x prerequisites:- 1. Wilder gets remunerated for allowing AJ vs Fury to happen 2. Wilder gets a clause in the AJ vs Fury contract assuring him of a shot at the winner of that fight (note it may be the winner of that fight or the rematch between AJ vs Fury) Why you ask?...well Wilder vs Fury 3 to be arranged pretty much as soon as possible (note it was scheduled in for July pre-coronavirus) seems crazy given the beating Wilder took, he needs time to look at that performance, work out how he was so badly beaten and make provisions in his training and preparation to attempt to negate at least some of the problems he faced and couldn't deal with in fight 2, furthermore he could do with a decent break after a sobering defeat like that, time to get his head together and exercise (as best he can) the demons of that night, finally if he negotiates a guaranteed shot at the winner of the AJ vs Fury fight (either after fight 1 or a 2nd fight between the two of them) he'd then be fighting for the undisputed HW title not just the WBC strap he lost to Fury (AJ vs Fury fight has to be for the undisputed title as between the two of them they have all the belts)...when you look at it from this perspective you can see a logic (a sensible one) to Wilder taking a step aside option if it were to be made available / negotiated. There is the problem of perception, those that would see a step aside as weakness on Wilders part but given where he is currently for every 1 x person who would look at this act in that rather simplistic (and in my view dumb) way there would be others who would see the logic...Wilder reputation is through the floor at the moment and it isn't going to be restored by simply agreeing to fight Fury again in a 3rd fight, the way he performs in that 3rd fight or in his next outing against a champion is what's going to matter, another shellacking from Fury will simply confirm what many of us thought for a long time (me being one of them) that Wilder was and is something of a hype job who, when faced with genuine quality was exposed for what he is, a puncher with a limited skillset.. Not often I disagree with Eddie but on this occasion I have to...

Carl is just itching to get back into the ring which i am not surprised about as he was still very much in his prime when he had his last bout against Groves before retiring. But the fight has no serious interest and Calzaghe has not even mentioned a possible comeback. All noise but still fun to watch Froch get all hyped up. Both world class fighters who unfortunately did not cross paths in their prime.
