I’m 43,I just got full set of dentures 13 months ago! still trying to learn how to live with them,still cannot eat with them,even soft foods are difficult. also still having a little bit of trouble speaking,and I didn’t go with the low end dentures I spent over two grand on just the dentures alone not to mention what I spent out-of-pocket on extractions! I thought this was gonna be a better lifestyle but at this point I’m still in complete regret mode! especially trying to date!!! not going to lie I was on a date a couple months ago and within eight minutes of sitting down at the table the girl literally asked me so are those implants or dentures??? And the embarrassment I immediately felt was almost unbearable literally felt like getting up and walking away… your videos are a huge inspiration to me and I can’t wait until I can afford the implants that I desperately need! thank you so much for being an inspiration to all of us and I’m so so sorry for your loss.🙏

@Robert Shafer as a dental assistant of 30 years working with dentures, and having them myself...I highly recommend that you wear them all day and force yourself to eat with them, as that's the only way we adapt to all the foreign plastic in our mouths. Practice eating things at home like crackers, chips, etc, as you can use the plastic palate and your tongue to mash them. Practice talking and singing aloud as much as possible everyday. The more you wear them, the faster you'll adapt. You'll need denture adhesive to start eating better and if you have sore spots, be sure to return to your dentist for adjustments so you're not in pain. I KNOW it's easier often times to eat without them, as you can taste the foods much better, but you're putting off adapting to them. Are the current dentures the same set you got the day of your extractions? Lmk if you have any questions. I know the frustration all too well from a personal and professional aspect.

You are a wonderful, beautiful young lady! I first came across your channel, exactly 7 years ago. I was just a couple of months from turning 65, also going thru some major life changes and about to have my teeth extracted for dentures. Thank you for your videos and for being so open and candid about your experience. I lost my teeth at 34 due to chronic illness. My dad literally had the nerve to ask me last week if I lost them because of “all the crack I smoked”. I think it was somewhat supposed to be funny, but totally missed the mark. Wow, what a punch in the gut. Never did drugs and have always been so embarrassed about wearing dentures. After over 5 years of wearing dentures, finally looking into implants. So thankful.

I see so much of myself in you we both literally have the same story I was the same as a child and a teen and I relied heavily on the opinions of others and would spend hours replaying conversations in my head picking it apart and beating myself up.. that has followed me into adulthood not as strongly as it was but it's still under the surface. Hearing you look at it this way and really unpack everything so beautifully has given me a brand new outlook and I have so much hope now. For all of us, it sounds trite and is definitely easier said than done, but if you can love, accept and value yourself you can deal with anything anyone else does or says. Then you can be you and those that don't like it will fade out of your life and those that remain are the ones worthy of your company. Took me 30 years to learn this but being true who you are and liking yourself because you're being genuine is the key to most things. For me it addressed all the following issues which blighted my adult life for decades, Depression, Social anxiety, generalized anxiety, motivation to exercise, being able to live for the now - not dwell on the past or worry about the future, getting into toxic relationships, phobias, Co-dependency and overall energy levels and drive. But the kicker is acquiring self- esteem enough for it have an effect is far from easy.

I was in my 20’s when I had to have a full dental clearance; having chronic illnesses, I was always getting sick & some of my meds caused further damage to my teeth (until they all rotted & caused terrible pain). Even more unlucky, I was told my palate is too flat for any dentures & we could never afford to get a full set of dental implants. So, I’ve since learned to live without them. Kind of embarrassing in my 20’s-30’s, having no teeth whatsoever, but it’s not like we can do anything about it. At least I know it’s not my fault, though. 🥺🦷🤷♀️

Now I regret it but it will work out. Thanks to my job and its good benefits it wont be anything out of pocket (I am the billing dept of a healthcare center that has dental too - we get $1000 per year of "credit" to use on anything - medical, dental or even in their pharmacy. Plus, since I do not buy the health insurance they offer and have my own I get an additional $1700 on a prepaid card to use. They also have a program that can reduce the cost of services based on income, so by using all 3, its basically free - I am SO thankful). I dont feel embarrassment anymore - more like the attitude of "I have to have these, I deserve to have ones I am truley happy with". I can wear mine with no issues now - can eat anything, talking is fine. I dont even have to wear adhesive anymore because I am so used to them and how to do things with them.

Ultimately I am going to get my mouth situated but as of now and the recent past… I have been “happy” but not as happy as I know I can be. All because of some pesky little things known as teeth. It’s a shame so many can Judge others over bad teeth. In a lot of cases (including mine) it is genuinely biological/ hereditary. We bad teeth people try try try but ultimately fail. Others need to understand, just like anyone else’s “unfortunate biological problems”, people with bad teeth need to be factored and loved as well. I just got my a new set from Aspen Dental, they were the most expensive ones (hoping they would finally be the right ones). I had asked them to make them look more natural and to push them out more than my previous ones (which I’m still wearing), they actually made them straight across which makes them look fake and pushed them in further so when I smile you can see there’s a gap between my teeth and my cheeks, all of the teeth are so rounded that I can’t bite into anything! My newest set are slanted and for some reason everyone can see it with the exception of everyone at the dentists office. Also have not been able to eat since my teeth were extracted. I have spent a fortune on dentures so I cannot afford to get implants now! I just wish that I had gotten the implants when I had the extraction done. If you have the option to get implants, don't give it a second guess. It should be the standard of care in this day and age. If you get implants, just remember, someone else is taking meds to regulate their blood sugar, someone is taking meds to lower their blood pressure, this is just treatment for a medical condition. Teeth are a part of our bodies, period. You're just treating a medical condition. Don't ever feel bad about that!

My condolences to you and your family for your loss, I know it's a difficult time for you, but I just want to say that when I first came across your videos 8 yrs ago, I was researching dentures as I needed to have my teeth extracted, and your videos really educated me to where I was confident on how I wanted my teeth as expressed that to my dentist, now after 8 yrs I'm looking to have implants and wanted to say thank you for educating your viewers. Awesome video, thank you for sharing your experience and fears you went through, you are right about the humiliation, shame, and how ppl can be cruel and insecure about themselves and try to pretend to project that their life is a bowl of cherries when it’s not. I applauded you for continuing to motivate and educate people that are going through a difficult situation and the decisions we are faced with with failing teeth.

I just heard your story. It randomly came up in the feed. Just wanted to share that there is a link between root canals and cancer...there's a strong correlation. So it sounds like you had a lot of root canals, so as far as I know the only solution is to pull them. If we look at humankind as one body, we have to learn from each other's mistakes. Maybe one day there will be public service announcements about soda and tooth decay and maybe those things will just not be allowed to be sold in stores. My mother got stage 4 cancer around her mouth after she got extensive dental work pulling out her mercury fillings. I think the mercury contaminated her mouth. There is a lot of danger holding on to toxic fillings and root canal teeth. So I see what you did as healthier than trying to live with those root canal teeth.

I’m glad for your journey but the one thing that always gets overlooked is the cost of implants. Everyone beats around the bush and hims and haws “Well it might be this or could be that” but the fact is and I don’t know why they can’t just say it-“95% of people can’t afford implants!” Implants are just another thing designed for rich people. Simple implants that aren’t much different than dentures that you can remove yourself are around $15,000. Implants that are screwed in you’re talking $35,000 and up according to the strength of the material. Not to mention the cost of regular visits to have them taken out and cleaned. Not trying to hurt your feelings but you are an attractive woman and have had a lot of help along the way with the cost of your implants. Most of us have to foot the entire bill and it’s just too much. I’ve watched so many videos on here with dentists talking about how great implants are but they just never come out and say it- sorry, you can’t afford this. I had a couple of prices on removable denture implants- one was $13,000 and one was $15,000. I saw a commercial on tv for a clinic in Ohio that talked about getting your implants and your denture in one day. I made an appointment and dove 2 hours to this clinic. They were very nice and gave me a tour of the place and explained their procedures. At the end when I finally got to talk to the dentist I was kind of excited. I told him that I hated the fact that you can’t get a good estimate over the phone. I said “ You know if I called up here and you told me that this was going to be $20,000 I wouldn’t have made this drive.” The room got completely silent and after a few uncomfortable moments they told me I was looking at $40,000. My 2 hour drive home seemed like 4 hrs. And just so you know that was just for an upper denture. So I guess the moral of my story if you’ve lasted this long is that all these videos about implants give people hope and they get excited thinking they can get themselves back to normal, when the fact is implants are just a dream for most people.

The implant thing isn't simple it seems.. they're punching holes in your jaw, and that's a new invasive procedure in the nasty dentist's office.. it's not a simple procedure like getting a tattoo.. there are serious nerves and veins there.. there may even be complications.. also there is no guarantee that these implants will last decades.. even if I take good care of them, maybe they can cause problems in the future.. which means the dentist's office again.. removal of problematic implants, maybe new holes in my jaw.. that means continuing torment in the disgusting dentist's office for the rest of my life.. This makes me think, dude.. so never mind the fee.. Is it really worth getting my jaw bone drilled? I can eat whatever I want, even without teeth.. So is it just the feeling of embarrassment about a classic denture? I'm sorry to the girl but she seems like someone who cares a lot about others.. seems to have low self confidence.. maybe she got bullied when she was younger.. This implant thing is not very attractive to me..

I found your channel before I decided to rip out my remaining teeth and go with an all on four zirconia route. It’s been five months and I just got my final zirconia set this week. I WOULD DO IT AGAIN IN A SECOND! That first day or two leaves you sore but after that and the swelling goes down, you have a new face. I used a National chain in San Diego and it cost me $50k and change. I put $6k down and I pay $700 per month at %3 interest, if anyone wonders what it runs monthly. Well worth it. My jaw is lined back up like it did before I started getting any tooth pulled in Mexico that had any issues. I own a successful (knock on wood) business and I was embarrassed to talk to anyone face to face. I mumbled and stopped laughing so people couldn’t see my crackhead looking mouth, and could no longer eat anything stiffer than a soggy tortilla chip. I hated people lumping me in with tweakers when I don’t even drink. Anyways, thanks for all your info. I would never had “done it right” if I hadn’t found your channel. Thank you and good luck to anyone pulling the trigger. It’s a life changing procedure.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford nice ones or implants after wearing the first ones or if what I get at first will be my only ones. It's just a scary thing but I have to do it. I eventually need the same done with my top teeth and that's just a whole nother set of fears😬

Im 21, about to turn 22 in August. Ehlers danlos syndrome, gastroparesis, 13 "cavity facials" on majority of my top teeth that i didnt need, and a few other factors destroyed my teeth... I was told yesterday i need all of them removed. My parents dont have teeth and growing up its been my biggest fear especially because my mom cant talk or eat with hers and they cause her pain. Im not sure why my dad has dentures. But my mom had a condition that made her teeth rot from the inside out. Im terrified of hating myself, not having teeth for months until i do get dentures, my husband changing his mind about me when i dont have teeth. Im scared... On the other side im in severe pain, can hardly eat anything at all, i want to be able to smile and take pictures with my husband and have teeth im not ashamed of... But it feels like the negatives outweigh the positives...

First, I’m very sorry for your loss.🥺 Lost a parent not too long ago and it’s very difficult. I know you have implant dentures now but how did you go about choosing your dentures when they were the removable type? I’ve seen lower cost models $700 and more premium models for around $3k. How were you able to get your dentures to always look so good until you were able to the implanted ones? I’ve been isolated for several years now. I honestly don’t go ANYWHERE except for doctor appointments. I don’t even go to the grocery store anymore and I used to be a very social person. I was considered a very attractive person (according to other people) so I even have these feelings like there are people that would love to see me ugly now. I know it’s trivial compared to the grand scheme of things, and I too am strong in my faith but I’m simply sharing my innermost insecurities right now so ANY help or advice you (or anyone) can give would be SO greatly appreciated!💗

I’ve Always wanted the All-on-4’s and there is a Dentist about an hour away from me that do them and I’m going to try my best to get me a pair. I’ll be saving up for a while. Ever since I’ve had my teeth done, my Boyfriend has acted different and he’s even said some really mean thing’s to me and I could Never do him like that. So when people talk about pain for months and not being able to get used to wearing their dentures to eat, is it mostly because the fit is incorrect?
@kalinjax Жыл бұрын
Usually it's the fit. I really can't think of much else that could cause that pain months in. Our bodies are incredible at healing from things like this. Digital dentures are the future and usually provide a way more accurate fit than taking manual measurements so if anyone is having problems getting a good fitting denture, that would be my recommendation.
