The only thing most African HIV medical professionals always forget to explain to people is that prep or pep are also ARVs. It's just because in this case they are used as prophylaxis to prevent HIV transmission but not to treat it, and that's why even the dose differs. I have heard some people saying that prep or pep is a special type of medicine which isn't the case! It's like taking antibiotics cotrimoxazole or Septrin as a prophylaxis to prevent getting various infections when someone's immunity is low (though it's the same antibiotics are used in a different dosage to treat these infections ).
