Hi Andrew, beautiful vlog with wonderful shots. Great message to embrace local, which is something I try to do so a bit here in Hong Kong and was opened up by lockdown 😁 we dont need to go far for epic shots! Just found your channel and enjoyed. Thanks for sharing.

Spot on Martin ! I’ve really enjoyed exploring my local area - can’t believe I didn’t know about this place as I’ve lived here 26 years and driven past it 100s of times !!! Just returned this week for the bluebells too. All the best and thanks again 👍🏻

Because I have other commitments I always just get to shot in the local area, I try to do what I can without disturbing family life...Great video thanks.

A balance between family and hobbies sounds a sensible approach and maintaining that balance by shooting locally is good to hear.

I was in a similar woodland this evening just 9 miles from home in Suffolk, covered in Bluebells with the aroma from the nearby wild garlic. The rising ccst in everything is definitely a factor for staying local (and time).

Sounds idyllic Russ and hope the weather was as pleasant with you as it is up here tonight 🙏🏻I’ve just revisited tonight’s location for the bluebells that have now blossomed and just going through my images . Hope you had a good wander and caught some images and look forward to seeing them Thanks for watching as always 😊👍🏻

Sorry for the late comment Andrew. Wonderful video. One of my favorite parts about Covid lockdowns was seeing everyone's local areas, and it continues to be some of my favorite videos. Quite right about the rising cost of everything being prohibitive to getting to those epic locations. I also think photographing locally is more realistic to what 99% of landscape photographers do...not everyone can just travel to Iceland and the Faroe Islands like the big KZbinrs do. Also, filming locally is a nice memory of how a lot of us "met" - that will always hold a special place in my heart from a very unusual time. Fantastic images in this one - both old and new. Really enjoyed it pal. Have a wonderful long weekend over there! Chat soon!

No worries and hope you're having success with the house search and also enjoying the photography ! I can't believe I've lived here 26 years and not known of this spot - I went back this week and the bluebells were out too so a great find ! Yes agree with the memories of us all coming together at that time and forming the bond we have now. Good luck with the house hunt and all the best. Thanks again and take care :)

Totally agree with all these points Andrew - as much as I love the spectacular tourist honeypots, local spots also have their own and many benefits. You also end up with a more original image, instead of the same famous postcard shots (although I do like to capture those too!). Cracking images throughout - 7:47 is fantastic. 👌

Many thanks for watching mate and of course the honeypot locations have their place and I love to shoot them but there’s always an expectation of the final image before you head out and you often come away disappointed as the conditions weren’t as you’d seen them in other on line photos. At least locally you have the opportunity to return and revisit time and time again as and when the weather gods play ball ! All the best and thanks again 👍🏻

great Video Andrew. I couldn't agree more. Make the most of what you have on your doorstep! I visit my local canal (which I first discovered during lockdown) as often as I can. It's amazing how familiarity can encourage creativity when out with the camera.

Many thanks John and there’s a photographic world on our doorstep if we take the time to look hard enough and seek out. Glad you found the canal and hopefully a few more local honeypot spots too !! Thanks again 👍🏻

Hey mate, great vid, some fab shots. I went up to the lakes the other day - 11 hour shoot and cost £30 in fuel, completely unsustainable. I agree absolutely about the local landscape being the place to be, for all the reasons you mention and also for the uniqueness of location. Whilst many Landscape Photographers search in vain for a unique composition in the beauty spots, there's loads to be had back at home. And we are very lucky to have great natural beauty within a quick drive of many of our homes here in the UK....as you've fantastically shown here, we just need to look around. That said, hope to catch up with you in the PD fairly soon :)

Ah cheers Dave ! It’s been a revelation really for me as I was always travelling to the honeypot spots and since Covid I e found so many local landscapes to shoot - just last weekend I discovered a bluebell woods adjacent to this fishing pool (the one in todays film) - lived here 26 years , driven past it hundreds of times and never knew they were there !! And yes I’d love a trip to the PD ( think my budget will stretch 😂) so speak soon and we can get a date sorted ✅

Great vlog Andrew, some lovely images throughout to highlight your point about staying local to you. I still need to get out and scout some new locations locally , just seems there isnt enough hours in the day at the moment . Hope your well, take care mate.

The D5300 is a very under-rated camera. I still use mine, even though I now have a D750 and Z6ii.

Nice vlog Andrew and sentiments I agree with, we often have great undiscovered locations on our doorstep, which we often overlook for those for those iconic locations that everyone shoots.
