Most Americans forgot or not informed from school that the Philippines is an American colony that earned its independance but didn't become a state like Alaska but still part of America's colonial sphere of influence. So when you compare the Philippines to a state, consider it like Puerto Rico being part of the USA. So consider it as a former state that earned its self-governance as it's the first state that copied the US form of government with its constitution. Unlike the other countries that the US had invaded, the Philippines still kept close ties with the US and a lot of natural within borders immigration continued.

Caveat : respectfully your information is incorrect, Spain let's not even talk about what happened to Cuba , colonized the Philippines, for 300 years, then after the Spanish American war, Spain conceded after numerous battles ,a fake mock battle between the United States & Spain , Manila bay , with the outcome was pre-determined, United States going to win, and basically Spain sold and gave away it's interest in the Philippines, now United States was basically acted like Spaniard forced colonized, USA were forcing there Colonialism, on the Filipino people, Riszal the brave intelligent leader of the voluntary Filipino army fight against United States, to determine their own Filipino independent, but yet was assassinated by members of his own Filipino militia, and they we're paid handsomely by the United States, so the strained relationships between the United States and the Filipino people continued, or I should say lack of Filipino government, it took the invasion by the Japanese, after Pearl Harbor massacre, the Philippines were attacked by the Japanese, the United States it's allies along with thousands of brave Filipinos help fight the Japanese and Ultimate defeat of Japan, wasn't till 1946 that United States granted independence to the Filipino people, so whomever or whatever’s provided your history of the Philippines sugarcoated it, must've been a MAGA instructor🤯
