It was like someone flipped a switch and Summer cycling was over. Cool night, shorter days, colorful leaves and Halloween decorations are here. It is time for Autumn rides. Fall is my favorite time of year to hit the gravel but it does come with its downsides. In this video I ride my Gunnar, my gravel bike, and my chill, single speed cruiser hitting breweries and bike paths along the way - not to mention a bit of industrial gravel .

It’s just crazy to me how many wonderful paths you seem to have in spite of a relatively short season for non hardcore recreational rides. Meanwhile in much of the West and places like Florida year round riding but basically little to no infrastructure that supports making it relaxed and enjoyable! Always love your content thank you.

These are " the three layer days of Fall". You start and finish with all three layers on then after a few hours remove one layer then a few hours after that remove another layer. Then a few hours after that put on another layer etc...... I enjoyed an excellent ride with Tim last Thursday from Cuyahoga Falls to Belltower Brewing Co. in Kent Ohio and back again. Thanks again Tim.

Oh man, I got slapped in the face with the weather you guys had two days ago. Full headwind , leaves flailing. People freaking out about the fake northern lights. Fortunately, I left the house this morning in pretty much full winter layers, extra gloves even . This mysterious Argetinian frame I rescued is amazing, but I've been battling the dreaded french thread loosening syndrome . So another two hours clamping that down. Fingers crossed , I think I got it. This is an "art bike". I don't repaint except for touch ups , but this was actually fun, it's clear coated with expensive stuff they use on guitars . Got that for a dollar at a flea market. The paint scheme is all "Northern Lights". Italian fade. This is a wonderful time of year for me, but a lot of traumatic memories , mixed with hunting and fishing. And squirreling stuff away . I make sourdough bread with acorn flour , labor intensive as hell, but mind blowing . This is a banner year for acorns here. Scrambling to get more wild greens before too many frosts hit.

I love the elements no matter what they are. I adore all the seasons. I love long nights and long days. Summer-shorts, winter-coats, fall-sweatshirts, spring-jackets. It doesnt really matter to me. I might complain about how my body feels but never about the weather. All that being said I'm slightly impartial to riding through the mountains on a blazing hot summer day to swim in a crystal clear lake at high noon on any given day in late June early or early July. Nothing beats riding skimpy in the summer until 9:30 pm.

Enjoyed the rides and scenery, thanks Tim. Some industrial gravel towards the end. I’m looking forward to riding in the forest again when able, and enjoying some of the fall weather. Slow but steady recovery here in western NC from Helene and flood damage. Pisgah National Forest is closed, city, county and state parks are closed, and Blue Ridge Parkway is closed due to trees down, storm and flood damage. I truly appreciate all the help folks are providing for recovery here, local, state, federal, volunteers, and military. Hope to get out on the trails again sooner than later.

I do like the excitement of night off road trail riding and nobody being about. I like helmet torches. Mud can add extra dimensions but as long as not too sloppy. My joints do ache more though for some reason. My first bike was a Raleigh in the 70s, Grifter model. Which was like an early MTB with fat grippy off road tyres and gears, geom closer to BMX. I was so pleased to get that for Christmas.

I needed this. I used to cross country ski every winter, but I have recently stopped enjoying that as much as I used to. These past few weeks I have just been dreading the snowfall. This inspired me to just enjoy the fall shift! Who knows, maybe I can find a way to bike this winter.

Very much in agreement about loving the long days of summer, but I can't always enjoy lots of it since I'm neon white and burn too easily. I either have to slather on the sunblock, which I hate doing, or wait till later in the day when the UV rating isn't as high. Fall is the best because the sun is less burny for me and the weather is much more comfortable. Great views as always!

Thanks for the updates of your rides and upcoming plans. If I understood correctly your plan is to hit different places on the East Coast, good idea. I'm surprised that the northern part of Ohio is still so green. I just got back from D&L Trail in Pennsylvania and it was already in fall colors, least in my view but locals said that I was there one week too early. It was colorful maybe because it was higher up. All the best to your upcoming trip. Great video enjoyed watching it, so relaxing. 👍

I only rode a tiny bit of the D&L but I am going to keep it in mind for a trip next year. Thank - Cheers!

I'm only a third of the way through the vid, and I also lament the loss of Summer, albeit there's no choice but to adapt, but I'm prone to defining loss, and 'assigning blame' (for what it's worth, anything to stop the wound from hurting more) and I find solace in defining Winter for avid Summer cyclists: "Winter is punishment for something you didn't do". And then there's the 'helpful type': "Oh, but you can ski"...from your front door to downtown? Errr...I think not. Even in my work sojourns in London, UK, I could take the train on my travelcard to the edge of the greenbelt (South Downs mostly) with my bike every other day, and if I bundled up, I could cycle through lovely back lanes and though not everything was green, enough was to 'feel' it growing, and talk to it when cycling past. I call that "civilized",

My favorite headlight is the O-Light RN 1500. There should be a link to their website in the description - I've been running that thing for almost 3 years and I love the svelte look and the positive feeling buttons. Magic Shine has sent me a bunch of great taillights - the are linked below too. If you are going into a local shop they usually carry KnitRidders which are great choices long as you find the ones they switched to USB-C - I won't buy micro USB products anymore.
