Embroidery: How to do the Satin Stitch

It depends on the kind of design you're making. For large blocks of color, intarsia works really well. For a multicolor design, stranded knitting or fair isle is a great option. Other than that, you always can use embroidery and duplicate stitch to create a design on top of your knitting if you are more comfortable with that technique.
