Hi! Sorry that this happened to you as a child. I dont have sexual abuse in my history. But child abuse that also led to PTSD. Done EMDR 5 times now. But its hard. Did you go on any meds doing EMDR? To handle the EMDR? Greetings from Sweden

Hi Hanna. Thanks for watching. I'm sorry that you also suffered abuse as a child. EMDR was hard for me too. I started taking Sertraline a few months before I began EMDR and I also started taking clonazepam (I take only 1/2 a tablet) as needed for anxiety. I was so exhausted after EMDR that I often took a nap. I wish you all of the best in your recovery. Pam

How long did you have to do EMDR before symptoms got better? I started earlier this year but had to stop for a few months as I couldn’t handle the emotional flashbacks. I want to start again but I feel like I’ll be doing it until I’m 50 at this rate (I have hard denial but went through other abuse types too that I know happened, so believing that this happened and wanting to see the visual is hard).

Hi Megankay, sorry I didn't respond sooner. For me, it took about 2 months or so of EMDR before I started seeing improvement and I was doing EMDR 3x a week. It is tough and if you needed a break, it is very good that you took it. I didn't even start to recover memories until 50, so don't worry about being 50 to complete it. I'm sorry you were abused, and denial is something I still struggle with, 4 years later. I know intellectually that it happened, but sometimes I just can't handle it. I wish you the best, and if there's a topic you'd like me to talk about, let me know.
