I install the Emerald Struts automatic gas boot / trunk struts on my Ford Focus RS!
Made from quality materials, coated and painted black, they are very light weight, really look cool, and look very OEM plus plus!
This mod from Emerald Struts, looks OEM because it made to fit perfectly in the same way that the genuine Ford Parts version that comes from factory on the MK3 Focus, taking the design cues that work for them and then improving upon the design in pretty much every way, including adding the amazing automatic opening functionality on top!
While the stock / factory boot / trunk struts are perfectly fine - quality, well made, do the job they are designed to do - there is always room for improvement and that is where Emerald Struts come in - making improvements in material quality as well as strength as you will see, in particular in the joints being metal instead of plastic and using the same pin lock that the SiCo Developments bonnet struts use - in fact the design language of the Emerald Struts is very similar to the SiCo Developments bonnet struts so they match really well!
Then the star attraction and unique selling point of the Emerald Struts offering - the automatic opening function!
This a simple concept yet genius idea and design - the addition of the little red spring at the top of each strut provides the needed lift / push required to unlatch the boot / trunk hatch immediately after unlocking. This means that all is needed to fully open the boot / trunk is a double press of the boot unlock button on your key fob and hey-presto!
Not only does this add ultimate convenience - hands free boot / trunk opening, useful for many situations like when you have lots of shopping bags for example - but it also adds maximum style points aka steeze so you can look super cool in the carpark!
The installation is very quick and easy (a little easier if you have a helper to hold the boot / trunk hatch while doing the first strut as the Ford are not strong enough to hold the weight of the boot / trunk hatch but the Emerald Struts are, making the second strut easier!) with only a flat head screwdriver required to get into the little groove of the Ford struts in order to unlock the locking tab!
One thing to note is that closing the boot / trunk hatch now requires a bit more effort but this is to be expected given the push that the struts / spring now provide for opening the boot / trunk but Emerald Struts say that this will loosen up a bit over time and indeed you will get used to it in time as well so not to worry!

Excellent - just ordered a set! Arrived October 11th and installed this morning (October 12th). Works a treat, but it is certainly more difficult to close the hatch than before (as would be expected of course, but 8 stone weaklings might complain!)

Thanks Adam. Was always jealous that some SUV had the ability to open the trunk after unlocking. After seeing that my Focus hydralic lift was starting to fail, I was looking for a cool, aftermarket replacement. Quality video as always. I have seen stories of mounting points that over time get damaged by these struts, but those must be early versions or diy improvised look-a-likes. Nothing but quality products for the RS so will order them for my ST soon 😁

I have these fitted to my Ford Focus 2017. I find them very hard and heavy to close the boot. Is this the norm for this feature ? The Ford struts are loads easier to close the boot.

The problem with emarald struts is it is very hard to close the boot and had to again replace it with OEM struts which are softer to close.

Hi Ricardo, in the EU models there should be an air compressor and bottle of goo to connect to it in lieu of a spare wheel/tyre and then if the car has the audio upgrade option there is a subwoofer. I think that is it (can't remember exactly!) The models in the USA region have a discrete amp for the audio setup in there as well
