Justin I'm a single dad,moved to Idaho from LA CA. My twin boys were starting 9 th grade they had to walk to end of driveway to get on school bus.every morning they close school when it gets to -20 f . But -1 - -19 they walk,its 1/3 of a mile driveway with snow. They did this untill they got 4 wd trucks.they have grad Idaho state university now,and are both traveling RN's I'm very proud of them.they are based in st. Louis but fell in love with no. Thats the grease fitting for the throw out bearing it's not a cables all ge ad to do was crank it in gear so he could get out the way or to the shop also get the black lines much better they handle the weather alot better! Keep an eye on your air filters if you're not with hauling that dust it will clog them up & definitely cut off while loading!

Going back a few years…..I drove a western star that had a silver 92 with a fuller 15 speed c/w deep reduction….the clutch pivot that broke. I was 2 hours from a mechanic. The only way to move the truck was to select deep reduction on the dash and idle the Detroit right down a slowly push the shifter into first…the hard part was the truck only do about 2 mph screaming…you had to get it out of first,hit the dash switch then grab first again before the truck stopped…Took the truck to my mechanic…wound up having to drive truck for 2 days with no clutch waiting for part to get flown in from wet coast…I learned in a 5n’4 so constantly double clutching was a way of life..after that mishap I didn’t use the clutch again except to start and stop and to learn a new truck.

we always added extensions on the air lines to keep the guys from grabbing that part of the line that broke on yours and using it for leverage when they put the lines on and off, seemed to stop the lines from breaking much like yours did. keep on keeping on. sucks with the insurance hike but like you said that's the state of the economy we have had handed to us, we all are hurting from it one way or another. Well I'm stunned. In 50 years around trucks in the UK and Europe I have never seen a truck with a cable operated clutch. Back in the 60s we used rods, then in the 70s hydraulic but from the 80s on everything uses air it's reliable and super light. On the other hand our synchro gearboxes don't like being floated it prematurely wears the synchro rings and the splitters always have pre-select which triggers by a microswitch on the clutch pedal.

make no mistake Justin. all 3 of those boys love you. i can remember getting to the age when i thought saying i love you too my Dad got a little uncomfortable. it is just part of growing up as a boy. a girl will say it all of her life. kids grow up faster these days than what we remember. on another subject. load rates suck right now because the economy is going to tank. the people in charge of this country are hell bent on seeing that it does, but we will recover after we fire the losers that are responsible. i think everyone reading this knows what i am saying. one other thing. insurance companies will try to take advantage of anyone they think they can. get on the phone with them and tell them you are going to have to shop around for a better policy. when they say that it is the best they can do, ask to speak to a retention representative. there is a good chance they will work with you. trust me, they do not want to lose your business.

Had my red airline and electrical line pop off once in St Louis....brakes locked up and lights went out in the middle of the lane right on an interchange with tons of traffic. Luckily they had an emergency road service guy that caught me and stopped traffic. But stuff like that makes you learn to not let it happen again for sure.

Not always i guess, but most times you have a fire on the side of the road and another 100 or so yards down the road. Sometimes up to 1/4- 1/2mi apart, its usually a bearing goes dry and will start dropping an occasional super hot ball or needle. Most times i see a string of fires, not far ahead is usually a boat or utility trailer on side of the road with wheel problems.

On the fire, most likely somebody's brakes/bearings overheated and started throwing off very hot pieces that caught the grass on fire. Possibly a boat trailer that was a double or triple tandem.

I guess the newer trucks require you to have the clutch pressed down in order to start the truck? This prevents you from being able to put it in gear and start the truck in order to get it rolling and then float the gears in order to move it on down the road!

I've had a Perfect driving record for 20+yrs and my full coverage (Toyota Rav4) went from $89 to $122 within 18mos. I asked WTH is going on and the agent said "It no longer matters if you've got a Perfect record, the cost to repair vehicles have gone up so much, we need to raise our/your rates to cover losses". If you haven't already asked I would just tell them you are only insuring one driver You, and see if you can up the deductible on the Day Cab. Explain only one truck at a time will be on the road because of two separate uses. Those policies cost more than an older truck. You don't want to have the Long Haul policy insurance to drop on the W-9 because getting a copy back in the system for it will be a nightmare. I know companies that will insure one driver on 2 trucks and exclude any other drivers. I have seen where a lower rate on the policy is applicable for that use but you have to call in for a control number for that day or week and get a E-mail or a Fax to have proof of insurance for the runs. It is complicated. Some have a Tracker Installed and camera system to show use or non use. Also offer to provide a dealer Inspection to show the truck is in good condition. It does not cost that much to get it done and it is worth a try. Ask to talk to a Underwriter. You have a clean record. That is what I would do. Try every avenue. Why pay 9g on a truck and 7-8g on Insurance. But talk to a underwriter if you can.
