A friend of mine has the same transmission in a grain truck. I took some corn to the mill and it had to go to an overflow building. Had one of the kids from the mill showing me where to put it. Backing in the building I put it in low and the kid was getting huffy about how slow the truck was. I started shifting gears going backwards he looked at me like I was crazy. It was great.

Sharp looking mack for its age. I just bought a pre emissions 02 Kenworth tri axle as well. Im very happy with the truck. I used to drive this model mack, one of the toughest trucks out there.

Not a bad truck, walker beams in good shape, if that's a self adjustment clutch you can tell the wear by to gauge wear they have on them which makes it nice for clutch wear thanks for the video

I like your explanation about why you went with this Mack truck. Back in th3 60s and 70s, my Uncle was service supervisor at Capitol Mack/GMC in Baton Rouge. He really loved Mack trucks!

We have three of those old dogs in our fleet, two as straight trucks and one as a tractor. Bought em new and run em in the oilfield since day one, still solid reliable trucks today. Only problem we have is the electrical for the dash. Not the fanciest truck out their but nothing takes a beating like a mack, great off road truck.

A dirt contractor I know used to log also. He had a Mack dump truck that he had log gear for. Sometimes it would be a log truck, and other times it would be a dump truck. It’s name was Bulldog. It fit the truck perfectly. Great video. I also like your mix of shop time and site time. It keeps things interesting.

Worked on fleet of R model tri-Xs. That Xmember on the pusher and the Mack Xmember behind the cab were frequently repaired/replaced. Figured out that the pusher was high centering even in the up position (deadheaded) when greedy job foremen were using them as site trucks at 1 1/2 times capacity. Started using smaller diameter tires that were still rated enough for the 13.6K axle. Seemed to help. Great videos.

I know from being around the oilfield all my life Mack Trucks stand up to the constant abuse of off highway use better than any other big truck on the market. I believe you made the right choice. They may not have the highest horsepower or the most luxurious interiors but you can count on them to get the job done.

Found a good truck, I'm a mack man nearly 40 yrs and can't go past mack boxes, 9/18 speed both 318 and 2018 boxes in particular. Built for the E9 and can handle everything... except a bad driver. As for the engine etech e7 are great engines but a nice running CCRS at 490 hp is magic. Mind I am a V8 man😅 but great find well done

You forgot to grease the throw out bearing on the clutch. Have someone hold the clutch down and look up at the clutch and you will see the zerk. Grease it until grease comes out the back side . Then build or buy and cover to go over the inspection hole on bell housing. This will keep the clutch from sucking up dirt and making in almost impossible to adjust later on in life

Great video, looks like you found a real solid truck. I operate a small fleet of mostly Mack trucks, mostly purchased from the auction. You lucked out, seems like I always have to do rear trunions right off the bat. Same process, I like to spend at least an hour under them and change all the fluids while I make my list of what needs fixed. Keep it up, great content, I like all the camera angle on the drive home.

Thanks for this video DP. Your knowledge of Mack trucks is impressive. Where I worked in the North those trucks were called "Long legged Mack's" because they were using 5 speed transmissions at the time and were generally very reliable. I was trying to come up with a good name for it and thought of "Big Mack" but it doesn't look like a hamburger so, how about "Bubba junior" ? Cheers from Canada.

From the looks of that cross member on the pusher axle I’d take a guess and say someone may have backed up without lifting it and being a steerable pusher the wheels cranked hard one way and put enough stress on everything and the weakest link showed up. Seems to be a great find. Glad Clinton stuck around and saw it and snagged it for you. For those that follow you on the other social medias we already know what a great looking pintle hitch setup you and MBTS installed on it. For those that aren’t following you……why not?

I have a hobby build truck on a much smaller scale. I"m building a 37 Chev PU. It was my Aunt and Uncle's truck. They had it from early in it's life. I drove it in 1968 where I could see that the front end was shot as was the clutch. How I ended up with it is a long story, but I've had it since 1987. I was doing a Resto on it with my dad who among many things, had been a mechanic in the 40s and early 50's. we were into it a few years after a few obstacles and he passed suddenly. I parked it for decades in my parents garage, not wanting to work on it, but not wanting to let it go. Recently I hauled it from Mom's garage to my new home in South Dakota. I"ve been working on it and changed direction. I'm now doing a RESTO_MOD. It's going to look original, but have modern suspension and drive train.

Nice truck! The metal cab was stamped out in the plant I used to work at in Shadyside Ohio CVG and final assembly in Kings Mtn NC. Florida trucks are nice, very little rust. Enjoy!

Reminds me of my first job in '68 which was pumping gas at a service station. The service truck was a '49. Had more grease fittings than Carter's got pills. Had a big battery in the bed for jumping cars then often we had to jump the truck. Don't even want to talk about brakes and steering other than give it lots of time and room.

I used to make those old camelback springs, big old finger breaking beasts, they were the hardest spring to assemble and to form so the leaf gaps were miminal

Instead of calling it 'Little Dan', which works well, you could use the Cajun version which is 'T-Dan'. This comes from the french word for 'little', which is 'petite', and they shorten that to 'T'. 'Lt Dan' and 'T-Dan' works pretty well and eliminates any cornfusion. 😂😂👍

Good thing I waited until the end to comment because I was going to mention that it's probably that cheap little isolation bushing in your shifter and hopefully not the tower, a much easier and cheaper fix. Had to do a few of them.
