For anyone new to these ovens, I have used it for years. I added two bricks for fireplaces in the bottom and it stabilizes the heat. And buy an oven thermometer, the outer one is totally incorrect. Cooks and bakes awesome.

Love the use of a Colman oven with blanket to help keep heat in. But covering your small cooker base, including gas cartridge portion. Is a disaster waiting to happen.. Suggest you measure temp of gas bottle ,when cooking.😢

(1) If you don't have a welding blanket, you can place a disposable aluminum roasting pan upside down over the top of the oven and it will also help hold in the heat. (2) You'll also need an independent oven thermometer because the little thermometer in the door isn't reliable. (3) And, it helps if you place a pizza stone (or a brick) in the bottom of the oven to help regulate the temperature.

See caution below 🔥🔥🔥⚠️Welding blanket great idea! I put a 9 inch pizza stone in the bottoms of mine to help even the heat. I also use a oven thermometer because of found the one on the oven inconsistent but the blanket might solve that. I have a graniteware dutch oven that fits in the oven I can make a rustic loaf of bread in it. I also picked up the small cheap disposable loaf tins & cake tins at Walmart to save on clean up. 🔥🔥🔥⚠️ I would caution that the oven sits over the butane can compartment which can make it hot and risk the can exploding if it gets too hot. I'd keep cook times short if your not using the actual Coleman stove.

We were without power for about 48hrs. No worries, I got out both butane stoves. We had fresh coffee, bacon and eggs, toast (made in the skillet) the first meal after power went out. I was wondering how that little oven we bought oh just over a decade ago and have never used it, would work on one of those little stoves. I can see I need to find a welding blanket and an additional butane stove to be dedicated for baking. I can’t thank the both of you for sharing so many things that will help everyone out in hard times. Bless you both.

If you don’t have frozen, fresh, or powdered eggs you can substitute 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1 medium mashed banana, Aquafaba (chick pea liquid -3TB), chia seeds and flax seeds (1 Tb ground seed and 3 TB water). These measurements are substitutes for 1 egg so you would have to multiply per egg needed. Also you will have to test to see which substitution will work best with your recipe.

Oh great to hear you use it over a fire... I have just ordered one but realised it's not safe to use over my single ring gas canister stove because of the canister overheating. I do have two of the same canister single ring one and wondered if I put them side but side and spread the oven over both if that would work, neither canister would be under the heat then.. will have to see when the oven arrives! I have a small BBQ thing- that I've never actually used and wondered if I could use that as the heat source - save me having to buy, find a single ring stove that hooks to a small gaz cylinder.. I've never used one of them.

I have used my Coleman oven for years when camping. It fits well on my 2 burner camp stove and something can still be cooked in the other eye. With the prepared muffin mixes, I usually make a cake in a square or round pan instead of the muffins. Less time than having to cook 2 muffin pans. I make pizza, cook casseroles, cinnamon rolls, whatever would be cooked in a regular oven. I have a piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil that goes over the top & sides to prevent heat loss. I like the idea of the welding blanket though! Wonder if it could be used to put out a fire??? I also had never thought of using the stove on a rocket stove...I may try it on my Kelly Kettle!!! When I first started prepping, cooking was one of my priorities. I did not want to have to store fuel because it could be dangerous. I bought a medium sized Bluetti on closeout over a year ago. It only has a 1000 watt inverter. My toaster oven required too much energy and would not work with it. I bought a small toaster oven on sale from Best Buy. They also sell them at Walmart. It worked with my Bluetti. I am going to bake with it over the weekend. It probably would use up a lot of watt hours, but I am sure it would be another option. And you can do it indoors, away from the bugs.

That is great information. Thank you. I think if it was just a 3 day power outage I would not bake anything though. If I was at home I would need to eat from the fridge/pantry. So to not have stuff spoil. If I had to leave all of a sudden ( fire-flood ) etc. Then I would want light weight food options. Things in tetra packs. Etc.. That would be an interesting video. I know they have fish and things in light weight containers. The less weight and easiest to heat/cook the better.

The thing I have found when using this oven is that the gauge is really not accurate and the temp is much higher than you think. I see a lot of videos on this stove and some have over done their food, because they trust the gauge to much. It is only a reference guide for the temp! Lol!😅
@mscatnipper2359 Жыл бұрын
Pam, add a small, square pizza stone to the bottom of the Coleman oven to modulate the temperature, preventing burning on the bottom of what you bake. Thank you for showing that it isn't necessary, or even desirable, to sew the welding blanket into a cube with a flap in the front. I've been postponing purchasing a blanket for a couple years, due to my lack of confidence in sewing such a thick material.

Are you still satisfied with the Coleman oven? They seem to be the highest rated portable camp oven despite the noted flaw of having difficulty regulating temperature. It looks like you have abandoned using the baking stone with it? Have you had the opportunity to experiment with any other oven that require a separate burner or use biomass such as the ember oven from ready hour? Have you had the opportunity to experiment with any propane portable camp ovens yet? I know Coleman has made several attempts to mark it them but as discontinued them every single time. Camp chef seems to be the only notable company that still offers one. I would like to have a portable gas oven as an emergency option; the concept seems very sound and you would think that they would be relatively easy and reliable to engineer, but so far they all seem to be very poorly reviewed and received

Just my 2 cents worth...... We have a Coleman oven and I have used it over a propane stove (dual burner), a butane stove (single burner), a fire pit (campground type), and over a charcoal burner grill (campground). Each burned differently, but you had to control the flame for it to heat adequately. I do not believe that electric heat burners could produce sufficient heat to adequately heat up the oven. But that's just my opinion. Good luck!
