The bread looks great. I am confused as to why not use the breakmaker in the future?

Why would you can potatoes when you can grow them and always have fresh? Every year for my family of 3 , I plant a potato for each of us 3 potatoes and have more than needed because we never get all out of the ground yet year before.

Did your split pea with ham. Forgot to add the ham and pressure canned for 90 minutes per your recipe. Some recipes said 70 to 75 minutes i uses your time. Two jars siphoned about one inch and two siphoned half an inch Will they be okay? It did get thick. I'll be adding ham upon opening and heating up. Thanks for the recipe and your thoughts on my first time canning soup. Have a grand thanksgiving 🦃 day

I love Herbs de Provence. It’s a very unique flavor. I’m not sure if it’s the lavender or what but it’s wonderful on vegetables.

Hi Pam & Jim - I recently bought some “Fresh Catch” tuna. It is a bit on the pricier side; but instead of ‘mush’ it is filets and absolutely delicious!…. We’ve tried both the albacore in water and the yellowfin in olive oil. Unlike traditional store bought, the albacore isn’t dry and the yellowfin is almost decadent. Neither tastes, or smells, ‘fishy’. They have vegetable broth added, which certainly adds to the flavor, is line & pole caught, and is non-GMO. It is on sale now on both the company’s website and Amazon. We’re ordering more! I also have small cans of baby shrimp, crabmeat, salmon, and clams. White clam sauce and linguine is a great pantry meal. I’ve added packets of lemon crystals to my pantry for this - in case I don’t have fresh lemons or bottled juice. I also added lime crystal packets for my black beans. Bar Harbor smoked sardines are yummy - They can be mixed with mayo, sour cream and/or cream cheese to make a great spread/dip. Shelf stable sour cream powder and cream cheese powder would work! Penzey’s spices are marvelous!…. I’ve been ordering from the company for almost 25 years. They sell small packets of their spices which I think would be great to add a selection of to any pantry - although aren’t probably the best for extended long-term storage. The sandwich sprinkle makes the very best croutons and garlic bread and is also excellent on roasted cabbage, broccoli, and tofu. The Brady Street is terrific on pork products, and I use the Bavarian seasoning in my turkey meatballs/turkey meatball soup. Homemade turkey sausage made from ground turkey with Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme is fantastic! Many years ago I went to a butcher shop where they made this sausage and called it “Simon and Garfunkel”. I’m thinking freeze dried chicken or turkey could be broken up and used to make patties with the addition of a binder. best - bonnie

Have you tried silicone baking sheets? Used to just use foil but I got the silicone sheets and love them. Don’t have to worry about running out of foil ever again. Or getting those small pieces of foil in your food. 😄

I’ve just completed my very first canning session, I did carrots. Didn’t go so well sadly. I had one jar break right around the bottom, one jar not seal and 3 siphon. I have T-Fal pressure canner and have read the instructions, there is no tutorial start to finish that I can find anywhere. I must certainly be doing something wrong but I don’t know what. I am deflated for sure. If you know of any please show me the way.😢
@RoseRedHomestead14 сағат бұрын
So sorry to hear this, but take heart, you did have some success. First, siphoning happens to all of us, so no worries there. So long as the jars have at least half of their liquid left, the food is safe to store. The broken jar was most likely due to a flaw in the glass--a fluke--, so I would not worry about that either. The jar that did not seal could have been caused by a faulty lid or some food that got on the jar rim and prevented a good seal. Focus on the jars that came out perfectly and know that there is almost zero probability that you will ever again have such a batch with 3 types of errors! These errors were mostly due to chance rather than something that you did, so pat yourself on the back for even tackling pressure canning in the first place--that is a great first step. So keep on canning and we will celebrate your success with you!!!

A space heater is one of the worst things you could run for emergency heat. You want to be warm you don’t care if the room is warm. Heated blanket uses a fraction of the energy and heats YOU not the room. You would have to use that heater inside an insulated one person tent before the battery died
@RoseRedHomestead14 сағат бұрын
I am sure you mean when sleeping and while that may be true, there are other excellent reasons for heating a space. It would be tough to wear a heated blanket while working around the house! Obviously nothing we suggested in the video was intended for a tent!
@daneking120914 сағат бұрын
@ yes I’m specifically focusing on sleeping here. Still using a space heater is the most inefficient conversion of electricity to heat

I’d probably buy a second vacuum pump for food preservation, the one I have in the garage has brake and power steering fluid residue on it.

You need to understand that any heater sucks power out of everything. Added it will take longer to warm up when it’s really cold out. But the problem you’re going to run into is, how are you going to recharge them if the grid goes down? You need to run a test like if the power went down for a few days and see how would you run and charge everything. Don’t find out in an emergency that things are not working out as you thought. Run your test now. I use 20lb propane tank with a Mr Buddy Flex heater on low and it keeps my home nice and toasty. When the temperature goes below freezing. I turn on my ceiling fans on low to help push the warm air. I turn it on at about 7am and turn it off at about 10pm and the 20lb tank will last me 4 days. I also have 3 carbon dioxide detectors on every floor and they never went off once. The flex heater is safe for indoors. I can’t stress this any more. Please run your test as if you lost power to find out that everything will work and keep you warm.

This comment is not about this video. I just had to tell you I finally tried your refrigerator rolls and my family voted them the new go to roll recipe. We were so excited about the recipe we were immediately finding ways to use it in other stuff. Our new family favorite is to use your cinnamon ring recipe and exchange it for ham and swiss, broccoli cheese and chicken, pizza filling and roast beef and provolone. we serve all these with soup. Thank you so much.

Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing your techniques & ideas! You are right - roasting veggies brings out caramelized flavors of the veggies. I make veggie broth & sometimes can it, sometimes freeze. I’ve found that the broth is greatly enhanced when I include leek tops and parsnips along with the usual onions, carrots, celery, etc. Anna Thomas’s “Love Soup” is excellent.
