Idk what we would do without hardworking Asian men to explain how to fix things. Thank you so much for this video. I'm bought a 2000 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE with the 3.3L flex fuel from an auctioneer. They disconnected the parking brake cable and I had no idea. I use the parking brake because hills. I ended up having to drive it with parking brake on to get home. Now I gotta fix this, possibly fix other issues. This is a great vehicle, worth fixing.
@GeniusAsian3 ай бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Yes, make sure the parking brake is not engaged while driving. If you have to drive with parking brake on, make sure you stop and rest on your way home frequently so that it is not too hot.

Thank you for sharing your technique Our 2013 Kia Soul sat for a week in the mid-May heat in SE Ohio, and when we returned, we couldn't release the parking brake. The car wouldn't roll, but dragged one wheel along the ground. Jacked it up, attempted to remove the wheel, but couldn't. and after trying a rubber mallet, switched to a sledge hammer and tapped around firmly, until the wheel started to rotate freely once again. I was worrying about hiring a tow truck to drag it out of our narrow, walled driveway to a shop for major repairs. We still have to get that wheel off to replace the tire eventually (tire tread is worn but not gone...NOT as a result of this issue) but we can do it at a time of OUR choosing. Thanks again for showing us what you did.

Thanks. Showing oops (or non-optimal) are the most educational. I just replaced the parking shoes in my 2002 Town & Country (rear disks, plus pads and hub-bearings). When done, and adjusted by trial and error (removing disk w/ calipers off), the parking shoes initially dragged slightly and the parking pedal held at half depressed. After driving a bit, the slight dragging sound (whosh-whosh) went away, but now with e-pedal at the floor the van doesn't hold on a slight hill. Hope not in the pedal self-adjuster since, as you show removing that part is a beast.

Thanks to your hard work..I won't have to shout STUPID SHORT SCREW DRIVER!!! FUSE IT ALL!!!

Thank you for the great video. You're brake assembly looks like the assembly on my 1996 SL320 Mercedes. They are all basically the same . I worked on it for an hour and realized that I will need to take it completely out to unlock the brake ; then I came across your video. You saved yourself alot of money by working on it yourself. You did a good job . That's was funny when you said you didn't know many curse words or you'd say them . Working on automobiles can be frustrating and make you curse . I remember I was pulling a transmission out of my 1966 Chevelle Convertible and I was underneath the car , my 6 year old son said " Get a hammer and bam it out Daddy " . I laughed so hard at what he said. He knew I was frustrated by my curse words . Have a good day .

Thank you for the video - I have to remove my pedal soon as it is not latching into position when applying the parking brake. If you are going to get as deep into disconnecting electrical components as you did to remove your pedal, I hope you disconnected the battery first! This is important for safety reasons and may avoid damage to the vehicle's electrical system.
@fetv11739 жыл бұрын
+Vincent Sullivan the video made a point of this (it is an easy test): you may not need to get deep, pull your cable first to test to see which part is the culprit

Thank you for this video, my question is- what was the original problem with the emergency brake cable, where did it actually break? My understanding there are three cables involved in this assembly, the rear right cable, the rear left cable, and the front cable.
@GeniusAsian2 жыл бұрын
the cable did not break. The release force was not strong enough to pull the cable back, that is why when I tried to feed the cable back into its housing, it came back. So either to lubricate the cable to weaken the resistance force, or replace the spring to increase the polling back force should fix it.
@jerrypocha67714 жыл бұрын
At 5:06 the cable cam with the spring was 180° out, I just twisted it back enough to install the front cable (2001 model) by hand, as reinstalled it assembled. But do watch how the spring is on there: it can slip off the mount.

Best to disconnect the negative battery cable before poking around the electrical system. That way if a tool slips and you short out something, no blown fuses or fried wiring.

can you explain in words what exactly was the problem and what was the fix? I understand that the problem was from the rear and not from the pedal, but why does the pedal didn't click when locking and release? the problem was with the shoes adjustment? please explain

So it sounds like the real problem was in the rear, and to fix it you simple adjust the brake shoes outward a little to take up the slack in the cable, is it correct?
@tonytung64943 жыл бұрын
Truly Asian wisdom, check the cable on the rear wheels first before blindly working to dislodge the whole peddle assembly like all other KZbinrs did first.

Hello. Thank you for posting the video. Just to save your life, next time you raise the car please use a jack to hold it up in addition to the jack that the car came with. That jack alone is to be sed to change a tire and for emergency uses only. Using just a single jack is dangerous. If the car slips off it, you may injure yourself or even die if you are pinned under the car. Safety FIRST! Have a good day.

1999 Chrysler emergency brake pedal stuck to floor so i can't release it, do U have a fix for this van? It looks like the same, would this apply to the 99 model?
@GeniusAsian9 жыл бұрын
+jerry maier at time 6:50, I was discussing you first need to decide if the problem is front or back. You should spend 3 seconds to pull the cable to make sure that you really need to do anything to the pedal. My mistake was to take huge efforts on the pedal and find out it was the problem at the rear.

Sir, very good video. Can you please tell me the item number on the Craftman wrench the you show here.I cannot read it on this video. I am doing this on an old Lincoln and it is very similar. I hope that all 3 bolts are 10mm. The top rear one is very hard. I have seen some wrenches like this but only in SAE. Thats why i need that number. Thank you
@GeniusAsian6 жыл бұрын
yes 10mm. Some bolts also need 11 mm socket
@stephenkacin96836 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir. My main concern is the upper 3rd bolt that is hidden. Is it 10mm? Thank you very much. I would ash you for the number on that Craftsman 10mm wrench.
@GeniusAsian6 жыл бұрын
yes, if I remember correctly (it has been many years ago). I think all 3 had the same size. The upper 3rd bolt was hidden, it was tough to remove. But since you now know the design, you just need to take your time, to insert the thin wrench, wiggle to latch on, make quarter turns at a time, slowly you will remove it.
@stephenkacin96836 жыл бұрын
Yes sir, but could you read me the Craftsman number off that wrench? It is not easy to find. Thank you.

A few years ago, I had a contractor installing a new AC unit. He stole quite a few of my tools, I had recovered some tools from him before he finished his job, but later I found I still had many tools missing since I did not noticed they were missing at the time. This particular wrench was one of them, sorry I could not find the wrench, but it is a lesson I learned.

Omg! Trade it in, sell it as is, junk it, burn it, dump it in a lake! That’s more work than I can process! Just kidding it is much for the weekday so plan the weekend, crack the cans open and drink the problem away. Loud music, cold beer and it’ll work out. More psychological than physical. This is the last of my mega gazillion dollar repairs for the old girl. Just to pass PA inspection. Ugh! Well one more can and I’ll have enough liquid courage to begin. My only real problem is what to do with all the extra bolts and screws when I’m finished. For some reason there are always extra left over. (Satire).
@GeniusAsian2 жыл бұрын
I share your finding of extra bolts and screws after the work. After many times problem, now I put the small parts in a serial order when I remove parts, and then when I re-install, I will follow the reverse ordering so that I won't miss any parts.
