When I started watching I realized that I had an short version of this. You covered a lot that I hadn't thought about and will be updating my "Rucksack". In the Military we used to ask "What's in your rucksack?" It doesn't specifically refer to what is packed in your rucksack but what is packed inside your brain. Training and education. Get your "rucksack" packed so you know procedures if there is an emergency. It is better to do something wrong and learn from it than to do nothing at all and fail.

Thank you. 've added links to the PDFs in the description. Hard copies of the NIFOG and AUXFOG are hard to come by. Usually they are handed out by served agencies and not available for purchase.

if you setup the pi as a hotspot, you can use vnc and ssh on your cell phone to control it...

Good point, I have done this, but I also had it just stop working in the field with no access to the pi. I even have a tiny portable screen that is USB powered for my PI. It's just easier to use a reliable laptop.

Whatever emergency or SHTF communications solution you come up with, You need to consider that there will be no internet, no cell phones, and possibly no utility power. I expect all the bands will be the wild west and complete chaos. Add a (not out of the question anymore) EMP and we will have a very quiet mess.
