Emergency Depressurization system is crucial for the safe operation of chemical plant and protection of its equipment. Basically, Emergency Depressurization system is the process of lowering the pressure in the reactor loop by venting the loop content to a safe location, usually the plant flare system for disposal. An ESD system can be actuated using transmitters, switches, local pushbuttons or pushbuttons located in a Control Room. Several levels of ESD (such as Local ESD, Unit ESD, Plant ESD, Plant EDP) can be distinguished depending on the requirements.
