Dude it's about emergency and she was badass she showed middle finger to US and many countries. Bangladesh war was under her and East Pakistan broke due to the war. Also Emergency is the main topic as she declared it and she did wrong things.

@@right5689 yes….and no…..actually emergency of 1975 was a very complicated political phenomenon……the lawsuit against her is also very questionable……as it was put up by her political opponent in her district…..in politics things happens….even with the goodest politician…..its just that a political crisis is handled very smoothly and secretively….controversies arises……when this play comes in front of common people…..no politicians is gifted with a clean term of office….in politics you have to make a move….otherwise your opponent can mKe this move first…..

Actually in India…..especially in those days….it was a custom….that women holding high offices in military and administration were referred as Sir not Madam…..and still women generals in Indian armed forces are referred as Sir……so its just a custom…..

Actually it is a metaphor to call Indira gandhi as SIR because those days she was so powerful that not a single men could match her aura. And her famous picture in her cabinet meeting, she sat on chair and rest cabinet ministers were just standing. That is why it used as metaphor to called sir instead of madam to denotes the power and strength in Indian politics.

During British Rule in India, People Call Women Officer / Minister "Sir" . So after independence to late 80's Majority of Indians calls women officers , minister 'Sir'

She imposed emergency because her election as a member of parliament is challenged in high court and verdict came against her thus declaring her election as null and void.therefore she cannot remain as prime minister because she was no more elected leader by then.she was accused of misusing govt machinery in winning her election. On 25 June 1975 she proclaimed EMERGENCY on all india radio while addressing the nation.such proclamation gives immense power to the central govt,all her opposition leaders were jailed She made sweeping changes to the constitution. Infact that changes were referred as mini constitution which makes her more Powerful. She was considered as iron lady but that 21 months remain a blot on her career.

Pia, your friend forgot to mention one critical fact. Indira Gandhi's government legalised abortion in India in the year 1971. So it's been legal for more than half a century. As a matter of fact, every PM since then has openly supported abortion rights. 😁
