My female guppy unfortunately did not handle pregnancy well. She was stuck in labor and I needed to help her give birth. I was able to save seven fry, but the mother passed away.
Domestic guppy breeding can lead to the decrease fitness and ability for guppy fish to live long lives. Keeping the water quality optimal is important for survival of fragile fish.

I had to do this with one of my Mollies last year. I unknowingly had her in with 4 males that I thought were female. So she had 3 back to back pregnancies even after I removed the males the first time.(because fish can keep the old sperm for several months.) Basically, having to go through that many pregnancies in such a short time wore her out and she died giving birth to the third batch of babies. Only 2 babies survived in the end.

As a owner of guppy fry (6) I truly love how you helped the fish especially with the amount of people who do not take fish seriously compared to cats and dogs for example. I love my fish too and recently had put some medicine into the tank as one of my fishes were ill. Poor mother guppy.. I hope she gets better and lives for longer 💗. Could you suggest which other foods I can feed my fry to keep them at their best health?? I am currently feeding them tropical flakes, thanks!

keep their diet different everyday say one day brine shrinp than pellets than flakes etc make sure to crush it if they are still small goodluck!!!

Same here 6 guppy fry at the moment and I’m in such the dilemma, I feel like I may be making it harder than it should be. I have a 10 gal that I have my fish and guppy fry in together (separated by a nursing net), I just got a 20 gal to put my 3 adult fish (two female guppy and one tetra) so that the guppy fry can have the 10 gal all to theirselves for a while, anyway, I’m still in the process of cycling the new tank so I don’t want to do anything with the fish. BUT, momma guppy is starting to developed fin rot and is ALSO pregnant again!! I don’t really want to put her in any tank right now because I don’t want to continue to let her potentially give her babies any infections plus you shouldn’t dose any medicine with fry in there. And I really don’t want to put her in the new tank before it’s cycles because 1) that’s dangerous for her health, 2) she could possibly have her babies in the new tank, 3) she could spread the illness throughout the new tank water, any advice? Sorry for my book

I've come to notice from personal experience that conditioning fish with extra protein while they're pregnant, can cause them to be egg bound. What I like to do is, right before they give birth, I feed them exclusively spirulina wafers and vegetation based food. They start to poop a lot but it seems to get their muscles contracting as well, which seems to make it easier to release the babies. I am not an expert, this is just my personal observation. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication, people like you deserve all the good in the world.

I had a similar situation. For me I put her in a 2.5 gallon quarantine tank alone to heal. I used treatments to help her. And in the end she lived!

Who says she was staying alive for her babies and not herself? Female animals lives do not center around offspring, especially guppies. They eat them like fruit snacks once they're born. Call me cold-hearted but I'm sick of this notion that females live and die for babies, especially in R-selected species like this where parental care, if any, is usually male. Also a bit weird that everyone is saying dying while giving birth is noble, it's like telling someone that died in a car crash that their death was noble because the organ they donated saved a life... lives are not an equal trade for other lives, it just happens sometimes. It isn't noble, it's just sad and the way things go. It gives a vibe of valuing a life over another or acting like dying was that organisms value. I see it applied to dying while birthing a LOT, especially with human females, and its GROSS

So happy to see someone who cares so much for their fish💙 & RIP Momma fish.. she is really brave to fight for her babies even when her life was in danger.😢❤ My guppy mom also did the same😔 She was struggling to live because of chlorine poisoning.. I don't know how, but however she managed to live for another 15 days until she give birth, while all 4 I bought along with her died on the first day.. She gave birth to 16 babies, 15 survived. Now her family is as big as I can't count.. Hats off to the great-great-grandma❤ Yeah.. they are really brave mommas❤

My fish jumped out of the water in the midnight. I was on my way to the restroom and I saw something dried thing lying down, first I thought it was a insect, but after seeing it closely, it was my pregnant guppy. I immediately took the guppy fish to the bathroom and took out the fry. I took out 11 fish fries but only 10 of them survived. Thank you for creating an inspiring video. Thank you so much. I used to breed fresh water fish as as kid.... Guppies are that type of fish that don't need help with breeding... Just put them in a 300liter tank with lots of Valisneria, Miriophilium and elodea and in a couple of months... You Got 10 times the fish number 😅 that being said though... Every fish keeper has his "favorite" Guppy female... And when she's in trouble... It sucks!
