I personally think the only way for that to have happened was a single state solution but that's my opinion. Once the water crisis goes into full effect the middle east is going to be at war unless we can come up with a new way to get potable water. Jordan for example got the majority of it's water from an aquifer that about 10 years ago only had a few decades left before running dry. Not sure the level of it today but even "stable" countries are going to be thrown into conflicts over water. Fully expect that WW3 will be over water.

Both sides have been dealing with terror and trauma with each other for decades now, likely even centuries. The only way this will ever get better is if both sides promote and elect leaders who will make peace and diplomacy their first priority. For Israel that means being ready to grant the Palestinians equality in the form of their own state as long as they stop threatening and attacking them and for Palestinians that means making it clear that they want peace and equality and will stop trying to attack the Israelis and accept them as neighbors as long as they get their own equal state too. I don't agree with Kyle and Krystal that the 2SS is dead and they just both need leadership who believes in and fights for it. Make no mistake though that this is very much a two-sided issue and won't stop until there is cooperation from both sides.

As someone who has been following Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people for over a decade now, I find myself devoid of sympathy for Israelis caught up in the violence. That doesn't apply to either Israel or Palestine. The British basically gave everything to the Jews. When they conquered the region it was 10% Jewish. When they left and created the state of Israel, it was 37% Jewish. Yet the Jews during British colonisation often launched terrorist attacks within the British mandate. Similarly even if Israel was very kind to Palestinians and actively went out of their way to give them free health care, top tier university education, free water, free electricity, included them in the government etc, you'd still get plenty of muslims whom want to destroy Israel, simply because their holy book says Muhammad ascended to paradise in Jerusalem and the religiosity of Muslims is higher than any other religious group.

I know it is a hard situation, but so long as Israel’s government refuses to seriously address the human rights and needs of the Palestinians, this escalatory violence is inevitable. Edit: Upon reflection, now is not the time to talk about causes. What is happening is horrible, and Hamas is to blame for their own barbaric actions. Their specific targeting of civilians for murder and kidnapping is an obscene terrorist action, and they must be stopped. I hope the violent threat of Hamas can be ended quickly, without any more loss of life or terror caused to Israeli citizens. And I hope Palestinian civilians in Gaza can remain safe while Israel deals with the threat of Hamas, but fear that many many innocent Palestinians will be terrified, injured and killed as they do so.

Fighting to exterminate would look very bad on the world stage, and have diplomatic fallout. Annexing the territory would mean saying hello to millions of very angry people with no wealth and who are mostly Muslims and certainly not Jews, thus destroying Israel's identity as the Jewish state. So the status quo will be maintained: Retaliate, kill a load of people, then further tighten the blockade to keep anything remotely resembling a weapons component from getting in.
