I’m so glad that you happy with your residency. It’s always so encouraging to hear when a recent graduate is excited about their new positions. The one point I was waiting for you to address was how it feels to finally be getting a paycheck 😜

I love that you are living out your dreams where you're at. It's always nice to see your videos again. For some of us considering EM with no research experience, how much does this matter? What do residency programs look for in applicants? I've only got grades(at least I'm top half in my class if that counts for something) and campus leadership roles like ER club leadership and MS1 tutoring. What should I be thinking about at this time?

Research isn’t as important in emergency medicine. Leadership is great! Showing an interest in EM is best. Being a normal human is what we look for.

@@ERdoctorMike TYSM for your response. I’ve always known that it’s what I want to do, but worried about the experiences, ways to stand out without necessarily doing things I don’t care so much about to check a box. I know that I don’t like research and doing research to check a box didn’t feel right, so that had me a little concerned. Appreciate it.

Did you work as an EMT before getting into med school?

I got my EMT license, however, I did not actually work as an EMT. It did allow me to volunteer in the pediatric emergency department.
