Yet another person who thinks "get home" means run to the woods and camp. Just how many miles of wilderness do you have to travel through to "get home"? Do you work as a lumberjack??? Are you days away from home such that you'll have to camp on your way home??? Perhaps the best "get home" plan would be to move closer to work or get a job closer to home. At worst, there's very few people in the US that would take more than 6-8 hours to walk from their job to their home. And the odds of needing to camp, make a fire, or fight a gun battle are about 1,000,000 to 1. THINK! You're just playing Rambo and your nickname is "Johnny Junk Truck" because of all the garbage you're carrying.

Hello: First and foremost, I want to thank you for viewing the video and your input. Everyone should have the right to their opinion. Judging from your channel I would guess that you're at least a middle aged man. I'll see if I can answer your questions as honestly and adult-like as possible. To my North, Northeast and Northwest there are up to 70 miles of wilderness before reaching any non-logging industry, paved roads. To the South, approximately 20 miles to any heavily populated areas and to the East about 45 miles; much less distance to the West however. I'm no lumberjack, I'm a retired network technician but I'm acquainted with several Log Haulers. I wasn't raised here but I did grow up in the cattle business, however I lived in a big city for 1/3 of my life. You called me "johnny junk truck" because of the kit I carry; I've been stranded a time or two and there's comfort in knowing I'm somewhat prepared for the short-term. I've seen stores and businesses in cities of nearby areas looted because of a six day power outage. We aren't exempt.. You aren't exempt. America is by no means exempt. Most don't even have a clue of possible hard times history has shown us. I'm going to pin your comment and I'm going to make a video concerning the topic. Let us both publicly share our opinions. Thanks again for your input.

@@randywithofapt2660 Thanks for the reply. I stand corrected for your video as you DO live in a remote area. However, my basic comments still apply. I've constantly seen videos similar to yours that are folks who live in very urban/suburban areas and don't live more than a 15 or 20 minute drive from their jobs . . . Yet they carry packs full of junk they'll never need to "get home".

@@bledsoetx , I am just going to make an observation. While many people do live in large cities or suburbs surrounding them close to work, much of our country is still very rural. In many western states a few major cities are where alot of the populus live but the vast majority of the state is very rural and often quite remote. Alot of people do haveto make a living around large cities but would never prefer to live there because of higher crime rates and other ' big city ' issues. It might be a bit short sighted to assume just because it isn't an issue for you, others don't need a good get home bag. I personally live an hour and a half drive from a full size grocery store ,pharmacy, or fast food. I am 3 and a half hours from a shopping mall or bigger city convieniences. I know most people aren't as remote as me, but much of my area and the surrounding states have similar remote stretches. I'm not trying to be difficult but I think maybe you are judging others kits by your needs where you live. Not everybody has the same needs though. Thanks for hearing an alternative opinion and have a good night.

@@bledsoetx Hmmm ignorance speaks. I DO live in a metropolitan area however if I broke down between work and home I would be walking through PRECISELY the woods, with NOTHING and no one between me, my broken down car, and HOME. Therefore, a GHB is something I would benefit from. That said, I know what you are TRYING to communicate about keyboard commandos...playing tacticool. At the end of the day, however, your comments reek of ignorance when you make hasty generalizations about people you don't even know.

With ALL the available water safety options, bleach is absolutely the last thing I would use. I congratulate you on your modification's to the tarp tent - the log under the front making a "tub". We just got our electricity back after Hurricane Ida knocked it out for us for 10 days. Those of us who had tents moved outside until the juice returned. Thank God for mosquito netting ! That's all I'd have added to your tent. My "bag" is for emergency living (no "get home", no "bug out", etc) with 5 days of water & food as opposed to the normal "72". And with the exception of food & water, it's contents would get me well beyond a week. Our house could have been rendered totally unlivable, and we'd have had all the necessities and a few luxuries. I did make a last minute purchase of a power bank. And it served me well (1 recharge to my Android to 87%) able to recharge it in the car. I definitely am getting a 20-25,000mah solar rechargeable power bank. But anyway, nice video ! Look forward to seeing others. To those who may be interested, please prepare now for "emergencies". Some cell/wireless sites actually stayed up in the midst of the hurricane. But it didn't help people who were CRYING, yes, on the air (radio talk show) for potable water two days after. Who didn't have the common sense to fill an empty soda bottle with water ahead of time. And the local government telling people to "boil" water. Not easy if the power is out... And not one person did I hear tell anyone to go outside, make a fire, and boil ! The only change I've made is ordered a top load, military "Alice" 45L pack because I'm not confident that the zippers on my original would have held up to being on the move. We weren't, but could have been. PS ... More people died (2 dozen +) from Carbon Monoxide poisoning from their gas generators, than from the storm.

All things you mentioned are quite wise in my opinion. I've a couple of water purification avenues I carry but have always saved them for the real emergencies. Bleach in the appropriate amounts and a half hour to disperse/settle is viable but I would always boil as a first choice. We've a creek quite close by but I've also pondered our 13,000 gallon above ground swimming pool as a treatable water source if things got bad. (I agree on the mosquito netting, I've two nets I keep in my larger bag (64 liter bag I think) This video was in late winter but the current time of year, mosquitos are generally hurrendous here. Thanks for taking the time to watch. I really enjoyed your input. The longest I've gone without power is 6 days but it certainly can make one view things in a totally different light.
