Everyone wearing clean clothes in this video are token workers for the benefit of the camera. The real men who did this job were barely filmed. Thank you gentlemen.

@@siobhanoshea9979The old timer with the push broom mustache, he's managing it. He's gotten plenty dirty before. The front line soldier going home filthy absolutely deserve more recognition. I'm just saying don't discount the engineers. I've worked as a laborer and as the engineer. Most engineers coming out of school don't know crap. THIS is how they learn. This stuff is a team effort. I disliked the shade that laborers would throw at me bc I CAN do their job. I've DONE their job. I'm slower and i'd need help as I'm rusty. But I could do it. But they can't do my job. Not with any amount of guidance. Not without spending a few yrs in classrooms and offices. In NY, the laborers (on any job with any public funding) make considerably more than the engineers. Entry level laborer holding a sign, pushing a broom, make about $40/hr not including benefits. 20 yr old kids making more than 30 yr old engineers with Master degrees, engineering licenses and $150k in debt. Both working the same project. Equipment operators on the project make $60/hr plus. That's how much VP's made at the large engineering company I worked at. Men and women with decades of experience and dozens of licensed engineers under them

A bag of granulated chlorine every 100 feet in the affected section would suffice but A pipe that big I’d say every 20 feet just dump a bag before recharging

If we emptied the water flow in the water main by using suitable valves which are well functioning it would be easy to do the repair.

What kind of psi does a 54 inch main have ?
@Intense_Cloud
@Intense_Cloud Жыл бұрын
Depends on the system pumps, and/or the reservoir height while at rest (not pumping). We usually pumped up to 150psi. And to regulate the pressure into the city (outlet the reservoir) we used pressure reducing valves (Cla-val) at specific points throughout the system.

42" valves are a bitch to shut off especially if theres a bit of crap on the valve and can't get it to close properly turning it for ages And then the recharge don't wanna get water hanmer and blow it back up
@Intense_Cloud
@Intense_Cloud Жыл бұрын
At the beginning is a bitch to turn, then, still a bitch. Specially when tuberculation builds around inside the gate, then have to work it up and down several times, gaining only 1/8th of a turn at a time and is like 70 turns and it gets very hard at 55, not fun, not fun at all...

Don't believe a thing he said... The 12-inch water main outside my house broke, and it took the city crew 2 days to fix... the city crew didn't even have to build an access road ! Either the city crew is super slow, or this crew is super fast !
@TheCrustyFry
@TheCrustyFry 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on the circumstances. Sometimes the water can be impossible to shut down and line stops will have to be used. It could have been super deep; lots of service lines etc. There could be many reasons for this although I am in the business myself and to fix a standard watermain break usually takes an 8 hour work day from start to final paving.

Sometimes they only take a couple of hours to fix sometimes it’s several days. Water main and the environment play major factors.

@drajik
@drajik 4 жыл бұрын
Its easier, faster, and safer to just break that size of line throughout the portion you are going to replace and afterwards you can easily cut it evenly past the broken edges on both sides with saws.
