I still love to hear those tones. When I came on the county, that was still how we were toned out. I even got to do it every day for a couple of years when I bid to the Antelope Dispatch Center in Lancaster at old FS 129 on Avenue M. Back then there were 3 dispatch centers; LA, Valley, and Antelope. Its one of my all time favorite assignments and I got to be part of a little department history as dispatch and command and control functions were consolidated at our headquarters in ELA. Fire fighter dispatchers became dinosaurs back then because all of our dispatchers were civilians as we moved into the new era of CAD. Ah, the good old days!

I became a registered nurse after community college and during my BSN program, I also obtained my EMT-B certification. Unfortunately, the state of virginia does not any nurses to provide pre-hospital care, including advanced life support other than flight nurses. The same rule, unfortunately, applies to physician assistant(s) in Virginia, despite their ability to order tests, make medical diagnoses, and prescribe medication. I enjoy practicing in acute care and am hoping a nearby college will implement an RN to Paramedic bridge program as we have a shortage of advanced life support providers where I live. Thanks to all who serve, good luck, and be safe out there.

Like so many others this show inspired me to join emergency services. I served as a firefighter, Assistant Chief and Chief of a volunteer department. Got my EMT certification along the way. Medically retired from the fire service after going over a cliff in an engine. I do love that show.

0:10 - 0:22 It's ironic how these alarms almost like the ones you could hear in the dead of night up at the old remote radio station I worked at in northwestern Montana, just 15 miles from the Canadian border into the Province of Alberta. The border patrol station had no such siren sequence, so it always remained a mystery where these similar-sounding alarm tones came from. Still an eerie reminder, even from my last day at the station in 2012 to hearing them again here. Spooky.

Today made my life. We were waiting at a red light outside our local rescue squad. Then we heard the station alarm for the rescue squad crew go off (they have 2 rescue squads and 2 anlmbulances). I have never heard it before. It starts with what sounds like a store security alarm “woo-woo-woo” and the the ever glorious Station 51 tone, followed by the dispatcher. It did it 3x!!!! I wish I filmed it. I was too concerned about our hyperventilating cat we were taking to get her nails trimmed. I was also just so excited I didn’t even think to film it. So what did I do? Called my mom, who I knew would be as excited about it as me. I guess despite living in audible range (at least when I’m outside) I’ve only heard the tones for the ambulances, which I a long beep and maybe a buzzer.

I was a volunteer fireman for 7 years. we had motorola insta alert radios. you heard the first tone but the second set off the siren in the box. They sent out the tones every eve at 7. a few times i had company and scared the shit out of a few.

I watched the reruns on Nick at Nite and TV Land. I loved this show. I just decided to look up the sounds since I am currently rewatching Monk, and I’m pretty sure they used the alarm for an episode involving a fire station. (NBC lens USA Network, so it’s not impossible they used it).
