@@dougm6146 The best aspect of this show was it showed the combining of firefighter/paramedic response out of the same station. This truly set the stage for the future fire service we currently have. In the old days if someone was in cardiac or respiratory distress waiting for the ambulance was mostly a tragic outcome.

Yeah, when the call went out to "Squad 51", it was just the paramedic truck by itself. If the call was "Engine 51"( which was rare), it was the big fire truck by itself. Great video touring the show's Firehouse. I suspect not many these days appreciate the true legacy of the show Emergency. Prior to it being on television, addressing medical emergencies was done by scooping patients up and getting them quickly to a hospital for treatment. It might be by a fire department, private ambulance or even a funeral hearse. The show proved that paramedics could be trained who could triage patients and provide initial stabilizing treatment on the way to the hospital. Now that's common just about everywhere.
@dfirth224 Жыл бұрын
This is correct. Before this show there were only a handful of large cities that had paramedics. People watched this show and asked their local politicians, "Why can't we have paramedics?" The first paramedics in the 1970s were ex-Viet Nam War combat medics. They already had the training and had seen everything on the battle fields.

This has got to be the best video on KZbin for Station 127! Has any one ever noticed while watching the show the difference in size between the real station (when they filmed on location) and the set station (at universal sound stage)? The real station is so much larger, but at the time when I originally watched it I never noticed it (of course I was between 9-15). I when I re-watch it I pick it off so fast!! This is so cool!! These Firefighters are so welcoming. Can't imagine how they felt when they got their papers to report for duty at Station 127!!

Awesome video! As a young kid growing up in the 70's, "Emergency!" was (and still is) one of my favorite TV shows, along with "Adam-12," "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "Battlestar Galactica." We have all 7 Seasons (DVD) of "Emergency!" (along with the tele-movies) on a PLEX Server, and my wife and I still watch "Emergency!" regularly. "Emergency!" was/is a great realistic TV show without all of the fake drama or reality garbage of today's television shows. It is also great to see that they try to keep "Station 51" still looking somewhat like it originally did after all of these years. Although, those giant flat screen TVs are a lot better than that old CRT television that Johnny was always "repairing."....lol. It is also cool to see that the actual firemen take the time to show the station to die-hard fans. Someday, we will have to drive down to Carson and check out the station. @bmasters198111 ай бұрын
Indeed so-- Cinader (that's the spelling of his last name) had this station renamed for him in '85, three years after his passing (he passed on in '82 while doing Knight Rider), because he was the creator and executive producer (showrunner), IIRC; that's why his name is on that historical marker out front, and why the station is called the Robert A. Cinader Memorial Fire Station. Also, Universal, the studio behind it (the late Jack Webb's Mark VII label being IAW them) has an actual Station 51 on their premises, to honor Emergency!'s legacy.
