This thing is amazing! This would be incredibly handy for remote (island) camping!!! Hauling water into the remote locations is a struggle. I think this would be a game changer! Plus you have it for emergency use! I see a ton of potential for this filter system!! It always amazes me how wilderness adventures and prepping over lap! Before I ever gave prepping a thought I was and outdoor adventurer, once I began to see the need to become more prepared I realized that my lifetime of hunting, camping, fishing had us quite well set for many difficult situations. Such a blessing. Thank you for sharing this with us. It’s fabulous! I can see this in my future.😉👍🏻

Yep. But at $83 each you could get 4 of these Portawell 1,000 gal. filters for the price of one Berkey black filter, or 4,000 gals. to the Berkey's 3,000. ( Though I have gotten a lot more than 3,000 gals. out of my Berkey filters so YMMV. ) And of course the Berkey doesn't need electric power...

Just last week I told my kids that I wanted a water filter for my birthday next month. Not the great thing you presented today (my kids aren't making that much money right now), plus I'd rather have a hand pump filter. I trust my son that he will get involved in the technical possibilities and then make a good decision - and let myself be surprised ☺️

Make another video showing how to clean and put it back together
@jeffreyrodgers51862 жыл бұрын
Another good video with a not so popular but good product. Thanks for sharing. We maintain a 1 month supply of water. After that, assuming we did not or could not make it to our vacation/bug out location we have the ability to filter 12,000 gallons. The nearby lake does have a lot of algae and would need to be well filtered to be safe. We would start by putting the water in water jugs, using coffee filters to filter as much of the large contaminant's as possible. We would next run the water through a sawyer mini. We would then use pool shock to provide bleach disinfectant. Then a Katadyn pocket filter with an active carbon filter. Then finally we would run it through the Berkey water filter with both the black filters and arsenic filters. (I have a friend that works in the water quality lab in my city. This is probably overkill, but it will certainly get the job done. :)

This is awesome, maybe have some extra of those 4 DLLs filters to try to make the others ones last a bit more especially if really dirty water. 7 mins is nothing for that amount of water. Great video
@kimcroe8 ай бұрын
If you buy one of these recommend that you immediately order at least 10’ of 3/8” id 1/2” od plastic tubing. The tubing that comes with the filter is really not enough to conveniently draw water directly from a source and pump water into a 5 gallon container without holding the filter. You will need at least 2 feet to 3 feet of clean filtered water tubing to fill your potable water container. You will need 8 feet to 7 feet of tubing to draw water from your source unless you plan to dip water out the source with a bucket.

I like the system, 1micron filter is definitely a fine filtering system along with the carbon after that. My source of water are the many springs up in the mountains and some are leaking right out of the ground. We will have to take our SXS up there but it’s not that far away. Also streams if they’re running and the Colorado River but that is a little farther away.

WHAT REALLY NEEDS TO BE DONE IS, THAT SAME FILTER SET-UP, ONLY WITH A MANUAL HAND-CRANK PUMP BETWEEN THE TWO FILTERS (LIKE A JACKRABBIT) - THAT IS A REAL EMERGENCY WATER FILTRATION SYSTEM. I already have that same Pro-Max water filter setup, so now I'm going to adapt it to work by a hand pump. Thanks.
@verdexj1602 жыл бұрын
You might want to check the psi requirements. I doubt the jackrabbit can get sufficient psi to push the water through the filters. Also, after 4 minutes your arm is going to get tired and you wish you had a back up pump as a better alternative.
@user-yf4gx4rf8h2 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of a back up hand crank option, in case you can recharge the battery or the motor burns outs. Given it's a survival tool redundancy would be a huge plus.

I'm in a very urban area. That pump seemed very noisy. Gravity filtering is a better option for me. I've also often wondered how effective distillation under partial vacuum would be.

I love this. Its like reverse osmosis. Is it reverse osmosis? Because if it is that's the only thing that can clean even other liquids in extreme emergencies. Always wanted a reverse osmosis system. Love this. A gallon a minute? Wow

An RO system has waste water outlet as well as cleaned. When using a limited supply, you do not want to discard 1/2 of your water. In the example used above, it would be perfect, as your throwing the waste away. You do need to consider that the water must be VERY clean before using RODI or RO systems to not clog your membrane.

Hello, I will be using tap water for my 55 gallon water drums for storage. Should I run the tap thru my Alexapure filters first, then add bleach for long term shortage? Or fill up the barrels, add bleach and then run the water thru the Alexapure when ready to drink? Thank you so much
@verdexj1602 жыл бұрын
My recommendation is to filter the water when you pull it out of your barrel. The water will go bad in the barrel. Flush them periodically, sanitize them and filter the water you pump out.
