Emmo only really had a competitive F1 car during four seasons, winning the championship twice and coming second twice. Cool, calm, technically gifted, and a master in car setup. He went on to Indycar to prove it all over again in the 80’s and early 90’s. Not Senna, not Piquet, Emerson was and still is my favorite Brazilian driver.

True. Senna was living nearby the Interlagos circuit. I remember from a biography that, although he was already karting for some time, the GP there and Fittipaldi had a profound influence on him

2 WDC (for different teams), 2 runner-ups(for different teams) and saved his fallen teammate's WDC in his first year. I mean... The best first 5 years of any driver ever. Emerson literally deserves a lot more credit and praise. Also, chose to run for his brother team, not getting paid, raising debt, stayed there for another 5 years and took 3 podiums for what was the worst car on the grid. I mean... Jackie Stewart loved the guy, Lauda loved the guy, Piquet and Senna loved the guy... This must mean something. Emerson is a treasure!

Twice champion in F1, twice in Indy500 and once in Formula Indy - and he drove for his brother's Formula One team, Copersucar, first and unique Brazilian team. Emerson and his family have all my respect. I hope his grandchildren Pietro and Enzo can become titular F1 drivers some day :) Unfortunately Brazilian people - generalizing - only thinks about Senna (he was epic, i know, but not the unique who represented well the country)

Outro que andaria fácil é o Senna. Essa regra de que pilotos não andam bem depois dos 40 não existe. Fangio ganhou seu último título aos 46 anos, Jack Brabham conquistou seu último título aos 40 anos e Emerson Fittipaldi ganhou seu último título (Formula Indy) aos 43 anos e aos 47 anos venceu a prova mais importantes dos EUA: 500 Milhas de Indianápolis.

The race at Monza, in which he conquered his first Drivers Championship was broadcasted on radio in Brazil. His father was the commentator on the occasion. Quite impressive hearing a father narrating such an achievement of his boy on a nationwide broadcast.

You can tell that Fittipaldi bring F1 to Brazilian people, a country where Football reigns. Emerson even created the first and only Brazilian F1 Team in history, he threw away the chance to be 3 or 4 time WDC to venture out on his own team.

I was only a child of 9-10yrs of age when we started hearing of the young Brazilian Racecar driver, with the very Racecar driver sounding name of "Emerson Fittipaldi" 😎 Elvis Presley was the biggest Star in the world at that time & one thing Elvis is still to this day remembered for, was his HOF sideburns, but Emmo's sideburns were enough to make even Elvis sit up & take notice! It was Emmo's brilliant performance's behind the wheel of his Racecar that garnered the American public's interest at first, but it was the Brazilian's cool look, that got the most attention here in The States, where we love a great driver, but if he's just plain "COOL" on top of it, then he quickly becomes Legendary & by the end of 1970, that's exactly what Emmo became here in America.... A Legend 💪😏

what a fantastic story.....back in those years, I was a young boy, who started to discover F1 in 1975....Of course, I became a Niki Lauda fan boy and never really developed an interest in what happened before this time. Now being much older and having watched F1 for so long, I find the Emerson story so fascinating as a well deserved tribute to Emerson.....

Colin Chapman's cap throwing signature gesture on the finish line is one of the most mithycal images in F1 history. Sadly Emerson's success is foreshadowed by the stats of Piquet and Senna. Anyway, he was the man who made this country love this sport, and he is the true father of Brazilian tradition in the F1 world! Hopefully we'll get a fellow countrymen back in one those seats soon!

fittipaldi was always a gentlemen . i've met him 3 or 4 times and he always treated me in the most polite manner. including a copersucar's car introduction where i could realize the difference from the inside of a formula's car back then and the rosberg's william's where everything was basically controlled by computer already in 2006

Many people don't know, but Emerson introduced Ayrton for all managers and team bosses at the very beginning, saying: "Pay attention to this guy. He'll be next great F1 world champion. Look at him!" Then, Senna won the world championship 3 times... 🙂
