Tarkus was the album that introduced me to progressive rock. That was about 40 years ago and I enjoy it now as much if not more than before. ELP is at the intersection of rock, jazz and classical music and they're so important to my musical culture 👏🙏

This album was created to confuse the listener musically and make believe that you were listening to something artsy
@rockista4195 Жыл бұрын
I don't think so, I feel some of Keith Emerson's music has some obsessive traits (coming from his personality, not only from the desire to look artsy), appearing as repetitive patterns in his compositions. You can find it here, in Eruption and in the instrumental part of the song Trilogy, for example. Personally, I find it difficult to listen to some of these type of pieces from beginning to end.

I prefer this over the orchestral stuff (the track preceding this: The Only Way -Hymn), or acoustic Lake ballads, or the more over the top Emerson compositions, not that i specifically hate any of that. I can handle a bit of repetitiveness, i don't think they're being overly artsy here.

@@Games_and_Music - if you're writing some music called Infinite Space, it's going to involve some repetition, maybe infinite repetition.

You sure you weren't thinking of Tubular Bells?

@@MrDino1953 Exactly, the repetitiveness can be taken for the universe starting over and over again in space, or the unending journey through space, seeing the same things etc. Granted, Greg only knew what half of his lyrics on Tarkus meant, but eh, i personally don't see this one as a standout in a bad way. I mean, they could've called this "The Dentist's Waiting Room" and i would still like it.
