'Memoirs Of An Officer And A Gentleman' is such an underrated masterpiece...theatre!

Love listening to Carl Palmer, he's so sharp even in his old days

‘Memoirs of an Officer and a Gentleman’ was sublime and worthy to be sung by Greg and played by Keith. I feel bad about some of the other songs they ‘had to do’, though. I wish ELP had been able to have a bit more control over what they recorded.

The interview with Carl Palmer was great. Thanks for getting him! Keep it up!

As a drummer i' m proud to say that Palmer, along with Bruford, Peart & Vinny Appice, are my main influences! I love the Palmer's drumming on "Bitches Crystal". Thanx for the interview!

My God-If it only had Memoirs of An Officer And A Gentleman on it, and nothing else, it would still be one of my favorite ELP albums. I dont get the derision on this album. It was the portal in which I entered their catalogue.
@jameskennedy721 Жыл бұрын
they lost faith in the style they invented . by trying to act like they still mattered , they looked like they didnt matter . which doesnt matter because the new styles soon became old , and no one had accomplished what ELP did at their peak .
@miccarbo7911 Жыл бұрын
I think the derision is mostly due to the album name and cover photo,...and maybe 2 or 3 Greg Lake tracks too many.

Carl is still an awesome gem of the world. I wore out the side 1 of the Love Beach vinyl back in the day. I know a lot of people criticize that album but I rather enjoyed it. Needless to say, there will never be a band like ELP again.

It’s crazy E& L couldn’t wait a few weeks for P to finish his commitments , I often wondered what an ELPalmer album in 86 would have sounded like?
@conradquek3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it would have sounded _that_ differently to be honest, although I think the absence of Powell's drumming would have definitely resulted in a somewhat noticeable change

Like ELPowell I'm thinking but the drums would have a different slant lol

This is the 2nd video that refers to "Love Beach" as their final album. Black moon came out after that. Their final album is "in the hot seat" which was their worst. But it did have a studio version of "Pictures at an exibition.."

Great stories. I still like Love Beach - especially the Officer and a Gentleman Suite, Canario and The Gambler. A much better album than In the Hot Seat!!

Hi Carl, i love EMERSON LAKE & PALMER, Your music is amazing and fabulous and you for me is the best Drummer of the world ever and i just want tell something about one thing so stupid and ridiculous about the Album Love Beach, i don't understand why the people talk so much negative about this album, i love this album, great songs here, all the album is very good , i like The Gambler and All i want is you but i like all songs and the people talk about the Image of the record, i don't see any problem in this Imagine, all you e EMERSON LAKE And PALMER is very good in this picture, great style, good smiles and i don't see any thing wrong here, the only problem here is not in this wanderfull album but in head sickness in some people, they was envy of your great and good style here, for this ridiculous people i recommend listen Bee gees or Michael Jackson. Thanks for your attention . Cheers

I was really young by the time Works came out and I totally got into their music. All of a sudden they just disappeared. I didn't know what to make of Love Beach and I didn't really listen to it. I just thought how it was a mystery how they just disappeared at that point

Love Beach was not a bad album, it simply was not their best. The cover? I have seen them wear much worse outfits.

I love 'Love Beach'. I'm also into progressive rock, but honestly much more into the second half of the '70s prog rock, which was definitely more focused on rock than medieval atmospheres: Genesis's 'A Trick of the Tail', 'Wind & Wuthering' or 'Duke' speak for themselves. I'm also very much into so-called art rock or even 'symphonic pop', the ones bands like 10cc or Supertramp or ELO performed very consistently. So I'm also a lover of good melodies and that's why I can say I'll always prefer 'Love Beach' to, say, 'Works Vol. II' or even 'Volume I'... my favourite ELP album might still be 'Brain Salad Surgery', it's really so genuinely rock and aggressive I can't avoid it, but 'Love Beach' comes second. It's the same thing that happens for, say, Yes's 'Going for the One' or Coverdale and Hughes's incarnation of Deep Purple, not to mention any Queen album from 1975 to 1980. That's my favourite era. 'All I Want Is You' still rocks energy out of me...

There are songs on that album that are similar to some earlier Prog classics and actually still hold up today. Looking back though overall the album suffers from lethargy and just not the same fire from a few years prior. Of course the album cover is still a running joke. Personally, I would have loved if they had continued in the vein of Brain Salad Surgery which H.R. Giger doing another cover for them. Happy New Year Everyone!

The album covers of something the Bee Gees would’ve done lol

Love Beach was OK but it was hard to believe that it was made by the same band that made Brain Salad Surgery.Nevertheless,ELP forever.

The best part of Love Beach was in the original LP pressing, included an advert for some ELP merchandise. Like satin gym shorts or a satin jacket and t shirts. All of it cheesy even for the times. Love Beach was a misstep. But it did have its moments.

I remember when "Love Beach" came out, I saw the cover, and thought "What is this? ELP? Really?" Anyway I bought the album, listened to it a few times, and thought "They must've done this just to meet some kind of contractual terms or something." And promptly forgot about the album.
