I miss the quality of stages in DOA2 - DOA Dimensions. You can already see difference between DOA2 and DOA2 Ultimate stages. Take Koku An for example. Same can't be said about DOA6 stages (Sweat looks exactly the same as DOA5 version while Seaside Eden is just crossover between New Zack Island and Fireworks from DOA5 with interactive KO).

Loved DOA3 and DOA2U back that, the setting, gameplay, gfx, more japanese atmosphere. Everything made with affection. I so wish they would import some of those stages into DOA6, e.g. The Koku An, fighting outside in the dark in snow and torchlight.

I agree. Back then no 3D fighting game series touched DOA. Especially when it came to tiered enviroments and backgrounds. I admit that the original Xbox was basically a close to a high end PC when it came out. So Itagaki had a lot to work with. The best looking PS2 fighter in my opinion was VF 4. Soul Calibur 3 loiked good as well. But no 3D fighting game series was as good looking as the DOA series. Only Vf 5 and Soul Calibur series come close. Namco and Sega had to adapt and copy some of DOA,S ideas and visual swag. Graphics and gameplay accessibility is why DOA was an Esport 3d fighter before the others. I also met all my female gaming buddies through playing DOA. Xbox live had mics and DOA had a lot of active female players.

I had completely forgotten how beautiful this game was...I just remember putting in a lot of hour to this game but the file kept getting corrupted and had to re-do everything. Which, among the fighting game played, was the second most hours I put into a game. What I really loved and miss about this game was the club level where they had club mixes of the fighter themes, and Helena's was fucking Fire man. And after watching this video and your revisting of DOA1 I realise Ryu's handstand isn't as useless as I originally thought I just wasn't using it right.

Itagaki created DOA and modernised NG, without him they're just cash cows for KT. It's like what happen to The Boondocks, media suits didn't like how long the creator Aaron McGruder took to write the episodes, so they outsourced Season 4 and it sucked. Now they hiring him back for Season 5 and letting him take his time.

I would say yes. DOAU is the best overall DOA game. Its DOA in its Purest form. No meters, No gimmick power blows, no critical bursts. Just a read and react 3D fighting game. This is the game that introduced me to high level DOA play and the community. Which was very very toxic at the time( 2003 to 2009). But a lot of the fgc communities online were very toxic lol. Many of the fgc players and pros were in their late teens and early 20,s. So immaturity and pop offs were common. DOA community had little man syndrome though. And since the offline high level community was so small they were the big fish in a small pond. All that changed when they got online. They then realized that DOA had a a lot of players that could hold their own and even beat them. High level offline players had their pride so they did their best to put the online community down and dare those players to come to events and play offline events. Its how legendary players like Lopedo, Vanessa, and many others got discovered. Back then I was decent. I could hold my own against good players. But not beat the DOA Central inner circle of top players. As a game it had tons of modes and content. You can even unlock the G4 DOA documentary. Tons of costumes to unlock. This game spoiled DOA fans when it came to content. It was a love letter to DOA fans. And Itagaki,s way of boosting his ego. Team Ninja needs him back. Just as a creative consultant would be fine.

OMG I missed this game!! I love how passionate you are about the classics. Every iteration before 5 were my most played and faves. The music, stages, vast amount of costumes and unlockable content for other doa games had us spoiled. Not to mention how quickly all the stages loaded and they were way more detailed on an original Xbox. Wth does it take so long to load far less detailed levels on “next gen” consoles. 😩 Which is probably why I give Team Ninja such a hard time. I guess at this point I can respect the direction that Team Ninja wants to take DOA6 in, but it would be nice to have a way to play the classics competitively. Honestly I would put my time back into DOA2U and 4. I just wish the original games got a compilation release with online play. That would honestly answer my prayers and shut me up about them adding the old stages lol.

I wasn't born during that time period, but I would kill to experience the days when DOA was beloved and respected. The post-Itagaki games are fun but held back by DLC and too much fanservice. From what I can see, it used to be a big deal when a new DOA was released. Now, people are like (as quoted from actual comments on IGNs Tweet about DOA6): "But why?" "Yawn..." "(something about 100000s of DLC costumes and/or boobs)" "0/10" I kinda think another company, such as Nintendo or even Namco, should buy the rights to DOA and make one without gimmicks or DLC that you'll have to burn your wallet for. Both companies mentioned are a lot more fair with DLC in their fighters, with Namco having a lot fairer pricing and more interesting stuff, not to mention they have a long history with 3D fighters. Nintendo, even though Smash is really their only successful game in the genre, only usually does fighters for DLC and when they DO do costumes, it's only $0.75 compared to DOAs $4, if memory serves. Even ARMS, despite its more niche audience,, NEVER did DLC and added fighters for free...like how DOA SHOULD be. Edit:Sega would be good as well, since they do Virtua Fighter, which DOA was inspired by.

@@xsorakazamax7522 DOA3 is absolutely the best game in the franchise. The stages in 3 were the best and more expansive, stages like "DOATEC HK", "Beach", "Lost World", "Azuchi", "Aqua Palace", "Lorelei", "X Octagon", and "Ice Cave" are the best. Genra aka Omega was a great boss. DOA3 left a legacy in the Xbox's popularity and the franchise. DOA3 was the most technologically advanced fighting game at the time of its release. The Tag Battle mechanics in DOA3 were better than DOA2U's, and DOA3's Tag mechanics were used again in DOA4 and later games. The roster in DOA3 is larger than DOA2U because DOA2U didn't have Hayate, Brad Wong, or Christie. DOA3 was beginner friendly as it was the first game to have Exercise in Sparring Mode. DOA3 absolutely has the best soundtrack in the franchise. DOA3 was the first game in the franchise to have Widescreen. Also, the font style of the DOA3 logo became the current style logo for the series. You should get DOA4. DOA4 is also one of the top best games in the franchise. Though DOA4, wasn't very beginner friendly, the gameplay is great, so hardcore, the game also has some of the best stages, and its has the best story in the franchise. @@sonic100X okay I got on the games again and you are right about those 3 I thought 2 had all those as well. As for advanced fighting at the time? No not even close. You are talking about an era where street fighter 3, Tekken 4/5, Blazeblue, Super Dragonball Z, Virtua Fighter 4, and many others existed my man. I use to play 3 alot but those stages are far from the best. Most are small arenas with bland backgrounds. The environments we're good but Doa2U had much better effects since it came after 3 as a remaster with the same stuff but they got to ad more since like I said it came after if I'm correct. Atleast that's what the game case said. I k ow you probably really loved that game and nothing is wrong with that I did too but some of those claims are ridiculous. Omega was a horrible boss, the camera was fucked and anything he landed blew you back and you had to run up to him again and again making it boring as hell even if you figured him out or knew exploits. Tengu was a much better fight. It was the same mechanics with a twist, he could change the arena at will with his power.

@@xsorakazamax7522 I specifically said DOA3 was the most technologically advanced fighting game at the time of its release. DOA3 was released in 2001, Street Fighting 3 was released in 1997, Tekken 5 was released in 2004, Blazeblue was released in 2008, Super Dragon Ball Z was released in 2005, Virtua Fighter 4 was released in 2002. The stages in DOA3 were the best. Stages like "Azuchi", "Lost World", "Tao", "Lorelei", "Hellfire", and "Forest" were used again in later games. As for Omega, you can dodge his attacks, it wasn't impossible. Like i said, DOA2U borrows heavily from DOA3 and DOA2. DOA2U did introduce slopes that was later expanded in DOA4. Its not that they didn't have the money. They got lazy. And lost Itagaki. Itagaki is OCD when it comes to his attention to detail. He had a firm vision of how the game looks, plays, music, and its environments. He was the soul of the DOA series. Just like how Tekken wouldn't be Tekken without Harada. Microtransactions is the only thing keeping DOA6 profitable. I don't think we will see an on disc release of an ultimate version of DOA6. Tecmo/Koei depends on the asian market to make profit.
