E.M.F.'s Pietta-built Pony Express Single Action revolver was originally offered in .45 Colt for Cowboy mounted shooters, but the new .357 Mag/.38 Special version is clearly intended for ground-based cowboy action shooters.

Some years back I felt like I just had to have the Colt lightning made by Cimarron. I also got the three and a half inch barrel with checkered birdshead grip. That thing feels really nice in the hand. However, it would not go bang all the time. It has a floating firing pin and I tried everything to get this thing to go bang every time including putting a heavier hammer spring in. Finally one day my brother took the gun to a gunsmith. The old guy took the gun just looked it over real quick and said..... The firing pin is too short. So he put another firing pin in it and it works great all the time now. Hope this comment wasn't too terribly long. Thought you might be interested. LOL

@2:30 you failed to read the owners manual. To remove the cylinder guide rod, first open the loading gate, 2-clicks, push in the ejector NOW you can remove the guide rod, because the ejector pivots as it ejects. This pivot gives enough clearance around the guide rod to remove it. It's takes both hands yet the cylinder can be removed without any tools this way.

Yep, took me a bit to figure this out on my Uberti. And the instruction manuel failed to mention that part of the take down.

Thank you so much! I had concerns about my posse II I was getting and having to always carry nice bits and a portable torque wrench!

That's one of the cooler modern pistols you have showed in a while. That would be a very tempting SASS option.

I have a Cimarron lightning which we all know is made by Uberti. I had a lot of trouble with it at first not firing every time. Tried a number of things including putting a heavier hammer spring in it. It still would not fire every time. Took it to a gunsmith and right away he said..... The firing pin is too short. He replace the floating firing pin and it has worked fantastic ever since.

No need to file on the sight, simply split the sight. Any work done like that will void the warranty. AND the ejector rod head rotates to the side so the cylinder base pin CAN be removed. No need to remove the entire ejector rod assembly and housing.

Great video. Really enjoyed it. I'm on the market for a good single action, the thunderer has a huge space in my heart. Question; I noticed your hands are quite big as I have, I have heard the thunderer grips may be a little tricky for bigger hands. What at your thoughts after using them?

Even today, a fellow would not be poorly armed with a revolver like that tucked in his waistband.

That weapon is on my list. I'm just not sure what caliber yet. I think it would make a great carry weapon. And it would have the added benefit that most of the bad guys nowadays would have no idea how to operate it should it fall into their hands. Kind of the standard shift of the firearms world, lol.

How much glare is reflected, off of a polished stainless steel revolver, like the Pony Express Single Action in bright sunlight?

Hey Mike, I think I have a handle on massachusets law, but other than calling my local police, is there someplace specific I can find out if I need a license to have a black powder original or replica gun in my area? All over the Internet it says no license required, but with the power of these guns is that possible?

If you shortened the base pin enough to negate the safety notch on the base pin would it be short enough to remove the cylinder?

Hey, I have a question for you since you seem knowledgable on antique firearms. Would you happen to know where to buy .38/200 for a mk. 4 webly and scott .38/200? I know that it will chamber the .38 s&w, so where might i find that, any good web retailers or have my local gun shop order it?

Will EMF let you a gun order a gun made with a mish mash of parts say Stainless Steel 45 4 5/8 bisley hammer birdshead ? And is this gun Colt SAA size or Ruger BH size
@duelist195410 жыл бұрын
It is Colt size. E.M.F. won't build you a custom gun, but check their website. They may already have a model with those features.

This video was 4 years ago but I’m sure you know by now. But just Incase you don’t... I discovered if you half cock the revolver then open the loading gate then depress the ejection plunger and hold it in, the cylinder pin will pull out. On mine the ejection plunger kinda pivots out of the way to make room for the cylinder pin.

Wait a minute. I own three in this barrel size with bird head grips. To remove the base pin/ cylinder pin all you have to do is push the ejector back so the tab rotates and clears the pin. No screwdriver needed.

On my model when you operate the ejector it shifts out to clear the cylinder rod, not easy but worth it for the ultimate handgun

I had a similar problem taking apart my Uberti 1873 .45 Colt pistol, and looking at the closeup still photo of your pistol, I think the same solution will work on yours. If you look at the cutout channel in the ejector rod assembly, it should flare out a little right behind the hook on the end of the ejector rod, so that when you pull back the ejector the end hook swings away from the barrel a little bit. Loosen up the cylinder pin and pull it out partway, then pull back on the ejector until you can swing the hook out of the way, then pull the cylinder pin out the rest of the way. I hope that helps, and thank you for another great video!
@dbldblu10 жыл бұрын
+1 It is not necessary to remove the ejector housing.
@sureisaidthat18 жыл бұрын
You're right. I have Cimarron's version of this (in .45 colt), made by Pietta. Just slide the ejector rod handle back a half inch or so and it swings out of the way of the cylinder pin. It almost takes three hands to do it, but then you can remove the cylinder normally, without disassembling extra stuff!
@emfcompanyinc.36777 жыл бұрын
You are correct, the ejector rod head rotates to the side so the cylinder base pin CAN be removed. No need to remove the entire ejector rod assembly and housing.
