BUMP 2023 ... prophetic words. I have been so zoned on the GOAT by Mike Sandlin ... I should have been looking here. This video got me to become a fan of the EMG ...literally what I was looking for ...on all fronts

I was going to get another license because I let mine go for a couple of decades. I got my ASEL around 1963 and added a glider rating in the ‘70s. When I went to the local airport to start lessons. Two things put me off. One was the cost. I knew it would be higher than in the ‘60s, but not THAT high. The second was the paperwork. I think I filled out one sheet of paper the first time. This time I was handed a stack of papers that looked like a phone book. Pass. I’m going the nonlicense, nonmedical certificate route, thank you very much.

Your assessment of the situation is very common. I don't know how were going to get new pilots if the bureaucratic process is so brutal. Where we are today is built on the back of the ultralight industry that thrives simply because of the lack of bureaucracy.

Rainbow Aviation I can’t resist the thought that burdensome and oppressive regulations are meant to curtail the number of civilian pilots. Your video is very entertaining, lots of interesting stuff I knew little or nothing about. Now I want to go to the next Oshkosh convocation.

Thanks for the information, extremely informative, well done! Commercially producing a Part 103 airplane is huge task, it looks like you have great operation and are at the beginning of a new wave of ultralight flight.

BigBlueMotors all carbon foam batteries as wing filler instead of styrene foam. Flexible graphene solar film as wing covering instead of polyester. I'm sure looking closely at these things for a build of a bloop 4 ultralight

Boy, that really solves a lot of problems. I flew hang gliders for years, then dipped into sailplanes. I found I missed being out in the breeze, plus the costs were high. I always felt the club needed something like your design for those local Sunday afternoon flights ( heck club gliders weren't allowed to be taken cross country anyway). Nothing like thermalling out in the wind.

Electric motor are a perfect match for ultralights, and should improve safety as well, theoretically. And so many new design possibilities open up. Fascinating possibilities.

I just watched a video of Dan Johnson talking about about the new rules on this stuff and he said that that the FAA says that "batteries aren't fuel".

Okay, I have watch almost all your videos and I am impressed. Amazing little airplane and I want one. I have started renovating my shop. Next I must repair my kerosene heater as I live in Canada at Wasaga Beach. The worlds longest fresh water beach, on Georgian Bay. We are not far from Blue Mountain ski resort where I used to fly hang gliders back in the early seventies and eighties. I still have my honourary Mountain Flying Licence from United States Hang Gliding Assiation for introducing the sport in this part of Canada. Got my plans from Dick Eipper who designed the famous Quicksilver. Next I must figure out how to download your plans and start building. PS, sorry for the umm comment.

The next step would be to contact Carol ( carpenter757@gmail.com ) and let her send you some use a more information about how to get started. I'm assuming of course that you've already been to the EMG-6 website. HTTP://WWW.electricmotorglider.com

Love to see someone put out a kit to convert BJ-1b Dusters into electric motor glider. I find it impossible to find anybody interested in wasting there time to launch me so I can fly mine. What I need is a kit to convert it into a self launcher. The designer even foresaw the need and showed in the blue prints where he would mount the motor if anybody ever wanted to proceed. The electric motor mounted as done with the PIK-20E so many decades ago would work well for the Duster. I do like the way the nose mounted prop looks as well and wonder if that might work even better on a Duster. I think the LS-8 has the motor mounted in the nose with the batteries out back in the tail boom to balance the motor. Self launch seems to be the only way to get real and get air time since no one cares about spending there time messing with ground launch and most air tows just cost to much and are only available on certain days of the month not when the weather is good for soaring unless it just happens by chance to happen on a good soaring day. Soaring as a sport desperately needs good self launching gliders. I often day dreamed about cheap gliders made in China since everything else seems to have the made in China stamp . If the communists ever do decide to dump gliders on us like they do every other items that can be bought then I hope they use the Duster as the basic glider and equip it with a electric motor and even make it out of aluminum and carbon fiber instead of wood. Maybe the communist of China can do something good for the world instead of threatening nuclear war or giving us mutated common cold to deal with.

if you are flying for less than 1 hour or even two, you seriously need to re-evaluate your airframe choice. love the talk, and would love to talk about the airframe end of things. I have no experience with designing full scale aircraft, but lots with electric models, and have them flying for over 4 hrs. would love to chat. cheers!

Good video! So regret to see it this late. However I 've got a question. As far as I know Part 103 is incompatible with 2-seats ultralight. Can any one render some hints for this?
@RainbowAviation4 жыл бұрын
Certified in the part 103 category, build as a single place only. Two place must be certified as EAB.
@sliu20104 жыл бұрын
@@RainbowAviation Thanks for your prompt reply! I am wondering even EAB wouldn't enable you to "sell" aircraft for money. EAB meas that either the guy needs to make himself (at least 51% work) or the assemble from kits, but above all he can only use it for self recreational or educational purposes. Let say at a tourist site, a club wishes to buy your aircraft for providing short flying experience to tourists. Can they use EAB aircraft for that purpose? Correct me if I was wrong.

The best strategy would be to build as Experimental, Amateur Built, as a Motorglider...get glider training and the license for Private Pilot, Glider...that's the most versatile approach.

I pray you're still monitoring the comments. Have you considered Bladeless Fans (i.e. Dyson Fan)? It multiplies the thrust of your powerplant 10-15 times, combining the Coanda effect, Bernoulli's principle & the mass entrainment process. The design is pretty basic. Mount your electric motor vertically and attach a 3D printed centrifugal compressor to the shaft (www.thingiverse.com/thing:4658545). Your "first stage" of acceleration comes from an aspirator (shaped like a venturi). The compressor shoots through the aspirator, directing massive amounts of air to the bladeless fan which, in turn, draws massive amounts of air to provide more than enough thrust for take off, climb to altitude and long distance cruise (see link to learn more). kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIG9emmOpK2cZ5I
