I vote for the V-MOD, that's what a P bass should sound like

Nice job. I always appreciate a video that gets straight to the playing and also doesn't shy away from having a sense of humor. I do think that if you're going to have a shootout, it would be more beneficial to put each setting head to head (Fender Fingerstyle-50% tone vs. EMG Fingerstyle-50% tone, etc.) instead of playing through multiple settings per pickup, but YMMV. Tone-wise, it's an apples to oranges comparison but still quite useful since so many bass players see EMG as an affordable "upgrade" to their bass without having a specific tone goal in mind (including me and my first bass circa 1992). They (EMGs) have a wider, flatter frequency response with lower lows and much higher highs, but lack the characteristic midrange of a traditional passive P pickup. Each has its place: a traditional P pickup is easier to record and mix in most musical settings, while nothing slaps/taps/shakes the earth like EMGs. Also worth noting is that EMGs really come into their own with an onboard active EQ, and as far as passive P pickups, the V-MOD is serviceable but not IMO representative of a great P pickup. I completely understand why you wanted a change. Cheers.

Thanks your comment… that’s a good thing that didn’t come to my mind when started to make the video to put the v-mod takes immediately after Emgs, I guess have to make a second part of the video to follow your suggestion, it’s a really good idea. I guess this is the only way to perceive the difference of tone & all the subtle harmonics that each one have. The V-MODs have a not so good performance in live gigs but sound incredible in studio, the EMGs are monsters specially in big concerts. That was my very specific concern about this upgrade, but I will keep my V-MODs for future studio work. Cheers too

Randall , I think you’re comparing apples to apples, both of these sets are good, in a mix it would be hard to tell the difference, I’m building a p- bass of doom atm, probably will go with the x’s, looking at a relentless as well, as far as installing the x is the most simple, I’m totally obtuse when it comes to that aspect lil

Thank You Patrick, I love the sound of Stocks but the tone palette on EMGs are wider and are specially good for big live gigs and slapping... anyway the stocks are stored in my shelf for studio work...!!! Cheers

@@randyhuevonBL oh yes the emg sounded great for slap. The mids seem kind of muted but that works for some sounds and scenarios. I like my mids. I liked the gzr or dimarzio p better, even quarter pound. I also like how you didn't gab off and went to the point. Well done.
